We had another epic battle today in STX at the final SCCA event of the season. I managed to take first and Shneegle pulled out a nail bitter of a finish for a super close 2nd place finish (0.072s was the margin of victory).

My final and fastest run wasn't recorded, but my last 3 runs were all within 2 tenths of a second.

I ended up 2nd in points for the year and David (Shneegle) moved up to 3rd (which wasn't secured until the final run of the heat). Next year should be just as close, competitive, and fun. I can't wait.

They are actually the set I bought at the beginning of the season; however, I run two sets of wheels and tires and kept these for the 'competitive' events so they had fewer runs than the tires on my black wheels (which lasted from July 1 until September 18).

I'm pretty sure there was time left on the table, but the lot gets gravely and limits the lines you can take. This means that you really are just losing time to mistakes and can't really gain a ton of time once you find the only clean line.

The Maxcy's in a STX (in the X and W classes) car were a full second faster (they ran the earlier heat, so conditions weren't identical but I don't think they were too different).

I do believe that the first heat decided the line to take on the course for the day. Just to much gravel after that, not sure why we could blow the course off.

Anyway, here is my best run:

As Sam (14stu) has mentioned it was very close between him and I. I blame I latest car troubles for it.

Had to deal with a throw out bearing going out a few weeks ago and found out the day before the event I have a coilover leaking oil.

Regret I had to miss the last event of the season. Obligations I made in April came due. Starting Saturday morning at 5:00am, I smoked 130 pounds of pork shoulder and fifty pounds of pinto beans, fixed 40 pounds of cold slaw, five trays of mac & cheese, and 2 gallons of sauce. Had great help with the serving and meat prep, but by 2:30pm Sunday I was ready for a shower and a nap.

Congratulations on your 2016 season results. Always a delight watching the big dogs play.

I managed to come in Third Place for Pax Novice. What a fun season of being a rookie and meeting new friends. Thanks for all your patience and sage advice and ride alongs.

Already, Looking forward to next year.

Curious, but did you notice anything before the bearing went? I'm paranoid about mine, but i think i'm just listening too hard to tranny sounds.

First 2 runs didn't really notice anything. Next 2 clutch pedal was loosing feel and when I got back to grid clutch was smoking. Last run when ever I pushed the clutch in it would makes noise.

After the event started car and whenever I pushed in the clutch it would scream like a stuck pig. After a few engagements the throw-out bearing stopped working leaving me stranded.

Mine made it 63k miles before it went, for other people in the local area it went sooner than that.

Another 1, 2 finish for Shneegle and I at ER today (first for me and second for David). The course was short, but fun and the weather was just about perfect.

My videos:

skip to 4:39 for my fastest

Shneegle's:

skip to 1:25 for the epic drift run and 3:34 for David's fastest

Don't forget I snuck in between you two. So I guess you could say 1,2,3 finish lol.

I had a blast at the Club Trials down at TWS. The only other twin was Denny Stripling (the novice STX driver in the white FRS from the last ER event). Turns out, Denny is a seasoned, and super fast track instructor and put down a 1:58 at TWS in his FRS (fastest club trials time of the weekend).

The best I could manage was a 2:07.3:

I ran my RE71r's and Denny was on Trofeo R's (the same 60 tread wear tires he ran at the autox), but I can't imagine the tires being worth more than 1-2s. Denny's FRS was mostly stock, he had sways front and rear, rear sub-frame braces, whiteline top hats, and some 250# lowering springs. The dude is just a blazing fast driver.

I went off track once each day, and spun once (which caused the second off). The course was challenging, rewarding, and fun. I highly encourage everyone to try it.

I had my worst performance of the year at today's ER#10, Shneegle beat me and neither of us made it into the top 20 in pax. Hopefully next weekend's NTAXS works out better, otherwise it'll be a long off-season.

Due to problems with timings and live postings today, I briefly showed up as 1st in Novice, but unfortunately that wasn't my real time. Had to get a screenshot of it though... Live timing now shows me in 10th, but doesn't list the time for my last run, which I think might have bumped me up to 9th. Oh well, it was another fun day dodging cones, and I'm looking forward to this Saturday's NTAXS event.

The last autocross of the season with NTAXS was fun! I managed to take 2nd in class 1.

Here's the video of my best run. Can't wait for next year when I have all my STX parts on!
