Clearly it’s a large part of the issue. If he’s not changing to a softer spring, he’s never going to generate enough roll to flatten the tire out at those settings. Faster rebound doesn’t negate how hard the spring is at all. Neither does softer compression.

I definitely found that it greatly improved the ability to put down (stock) power in the wet and the little bit of snow/slush/ice we get around here in the winter. I agree with DocWalt that your camber is most likely not the issue. It helps in the dry because it helps keep the tire from rolling over onto the sidewall when cornering hard with lots of lateral load / roll angle, but there's not enough of that going on to pull contact patch off of the tire tread in winter unless you're WAY over-driving for the structure of the tires (especially the softer sidewalls most winter tires have). The contact patch is the same size regardless, and -2.1 degrees in the rear isn't enough to pull a measurable amount of that inward off of the tire tread to the inside sidewalls to compromise traction. FWIW, I'm on RCE SS1's (damping set as recommended for street use), lowered about 30mm front and rear, my rear camber and toe are pretty much identical to yours, and I also run Michelin X-Ice snows in the winter (though in 225/45R17 on the stock Sport Tech RS / Performance Pack 17x7.5's). As long as I'm reasonable with my right foot, no problems with traction, though the traction / stability control definitely works overtime on ice / slush. They're OK in the dry, but definitely squishier / squirmier than my same-sized Pirelli P Zero All-Seasons I run the rest of the year.

Thanks, that's very useful. I've been wanting to do the mod anyway, so I'll do it and see if it helps. I have noticed the traction control light lighting up even when coming off the off-ramp at a brisk pace. So a very gradual turn in, not even a 90 degree turn

235 snow tire on an 18x8.5" wheel is not ideal. I doubt the alignment magically fixes the power down. Snow tires are *terrible* about putting power down on dry roads, in my experience, and I've tested with 100% stock and lowered on coilovers with diff & subframe bushings with a more aggressive alignment. It was bad either way, especially when the tires died.

Meh, I never had issues in the snow running track alignment (-3.3 front/-2.8 rear camber, zero toe all around) on winter tires in snow. I sometimes reduce front down to -2.5 cuz easy to do but sometimes don’t bother. Interestingly never got much asymmetric wear on my winter tires.
