And if she leaves any dishes in the sink then make sure you come on here and rant and rave about it!

I'd also recommend making sure it operates and you know which way to turn it. A friend of mine had trouble shutting his after the water valve to his toilet broke off. Apparently he gave up, ran upstairs, and plugged it with his finger then use his cellphone to call someone else to come in and get the valve shut. He swears it just didn't work, but I have a feeling he was doing it wrong.

Was there and had a pretty good day myself. Epic farmers tan/sunburn was totally worth it. Thanks to you and the others for putting it together.

How do you know? We don't even know what one he got. Some are extremely secure.

My research is a couple years old but I've been watching the smart locks. All were rated as among the easiest to pick. Nothing from a manufacturer rated really well still.

That may matter more to me here in Chicago (actually in the city) but...

Unless I've missed some, which is possible.

I don't even understand why a door lock needs to be smart. That's like having a bluetooth enabled fridge.

Well, ya ....... but usually they will slow the bad guys down and force them to make some noise breaking in ....... which would give me time to put my glasses on, get my .357 from my bed stand and pull the hammer back.

The next move is theirs .......

That only works if you're at home.

I just want them to have to break something to get in. Leave evidence of forced entry. If someone decides to clean out a house, they're going to. Insurance is a whole lot less messy if they can't waffle on "you didn't lock your door..."

Jeez, that's a good point. I lock my doors and all, but I've never really thought about it.

If there is a condo or HOA (Home Owners Association), I suggest you contact the associations president and introduce yourself and obtain a copy of the last homeowners/condo association meeting minutes (you don't want any pending association dues or levies sneaking up on you). Also, obtain a copy of the CC&Rs.

I suggest you locate the main gas and water and electrical panel, to be able to shut off in case of an emergency. The water shutoff is usually under the house or in a closet (nothing like trying to find the water shutoff quickly if something starts leaking).

NOW, your new wife will want it painted on the inside, all new furniture and all new window coverings......

So, just sit back, relax and enjoy your new home .......

It's a condo... but it's more like townhouses.

& thanks for the reminder. We did contact HOA, but they were closed, so fiancé did leave a message last week. We'll contact them again to make sure on stuff. I got all the minutes, CC&Rs, finance & future plan, & few other things.

I do know all the main, water, gas & breaker for the place. When I got house inspected, he showed me all those stuff.

She doesn't care too much on how the house looks, as long as it's nice & don't look like a shithole. I'm the one want to do all those things. First thing I wanna do is remove the carpet in the first floor guest bathroom. Why? Why they gotta have a carpet in the bathroom... gross
