Any reason late night Redwood/Pinehurst runs are discouraged?

Any patrol up there late at night? Deer?

There's a ton of animals out there at night. Deer, raccoons, opossums and others.

I used to go drive at night on Redwood but it just became too dangerous with all the animals out there. It's a very challenging road as it is during the day.

As someone who does Redwood/Pinehurst a lot at night, this is so true. The deer will pop out at the worst times and hitting anything else isn't all that fun. But if you like the thrill, come join the night runners out here.

As Panda mentioned, the road is tricky/dangerous as it is during the day time. Not only the animals, but the varying surfaces and blind corners combined with reduced sight-lines at night, just begs for trouble. Not a lot of people talk about it, but there have been quite a few fatalities on those roads. If you pay close attention, you may find one or two relatively new "memorials" people have placed on the side of the road from more recent accidents.

Not sure if its because I'm older or a father now, but no thrill is worth that much risk. I'll stick with early morning runs at my own leisurely pace.

Doing a drive to lake Berryessa Monday (9/7) for anyone interested. We will be meeting at Scandia, 4300 Central Pl, Fairfield, CA 94534, at 9AM and leaving at 9:30 at the latest. Shouldn't be and longer than a 3 hour drive including stops. Bring radios. Hope to see some of yall there!

Where are you planning on stopping up there? I was thinking about maybe making my way up there in the morning as well.

Will be stoping at the dam for sure but not sure on the road conditions on the west side of the lake... Herd they are doing resurfacing along that section.

Come get together for another FR-S/BRZ/Datsun Roadster run in the foothills/mountains next SATURDAY, Sept 12!


I won't make the full trip to Minden, NV with the roadsters, but I am going with them up the hill a bit and will take an interesting way back to the Central Valley. I am planning on heading through Mariposa on HWY 49 on the way back, hopefully it may draw a few drivers from the south!


MEET UP at the Chevron on Yosemite Blvd (Near Hunts cannery/Sconza chocolates) in OAKDALE, CA at 8:30AM. We take off soon after 9:00AM, and we'll just cruise with the classic Datsuns until we peel off and head back to town and stretch the legs a bit every so often.


Come on up/over/out to Oakdale Saturday, Sept 12 and enjoy the ride, old and new! We had a blast last year!
