This reminds of a Mini. Which isn't a bad thing...I wonder if they'll offer as many accessories as a Mini would. It looks like the kinda car that could benefit from that

Not bad, although I don't understand why they'd make it TALLER than an FR-S when it's smaller in every other dimension.

Get rid of the rear seats and lower the roofline please.

Car is adorable but edgy at the same time. Would definitely incapsulate the female market here in the US. Same people that would buy a fiat, VW Bug, Honda Fit Etc, would definitely be interested in this thing.

I honestly love the design. Looks like an angry caterpillar from the front lol.

the more i look at it, the more im liking it

the front end looks mean!!!

im not a fan of the interior.. i know people say less is more.. but literately... i feel like there is nothing inside that interior other than the seats and steering wheel(yes i know thats all you really need in the car)

i wonder if thats a small touch screen display on the steering wheel or physical
buttons

I'm with you on the back (recovering the top area) but not sure I understand the above. Making the dash shelf shorter doesn't really create a lot of additional room does it? You still have the firewall which limits where the pedals are so not sure how much the seat rails can be moved forward.

Am I missing something really obvious?

If the SFR was based on the miata and we already have the fiata then the potential after market for these cars would be massive.

I'm surprised no one notice that, they used a lot of 86 parts (seats, steering wheel, door panel & so on).

So I have two thoughts now after following this a couple of days. The first being, is it going to be able to fit tall people like the FR-S? I might want one for the second reason, which I will list below, but I might not fit in it.

I've never wanted a track car, not really. I love the idea of driving on a track, but am terrified of crashing, especially into other people. If I could get some Top Gear style alone time on a track that would be amazing, but that would mean renting the whole track and I can't do that. Either way! I look at this and I see track car for some reason. It's already light, why not delete that rear seat, take out some other stuff. FI on the little engine, custom exhaust and a mean tune. Meaty, little tires and stiff suspension. Could this thing be a little monster? Part of me says yes.

why use a miata platform? That is too heavy. They already have the perfect platform, the Yaris. Just turn in around like they did with all the MR2's, use the 86 suspension, and you have a winner. The 1.5 should be from the Yaris too, it would be very easy for them to actually put some modern tech into that engine and hit 130+ hp.

O'well. I got my BRZ, I'm good. lol
If they can hit Cappuccino dynamics they would have a home run. I mean really, that car has a massive cult following.

If they can slot one in at Corolla/Civic/Fit/Yaris pricing, you can reach a broader demographic. If they can undercut everyone in the RWD space, they'd make out like bandits here. For people who need more space or power, dealers can funnel people to the FR-S.

I think at the end of the day, it comes down to whether or not Toyota wants to bring it state-side. Hell, Toyota sold the xA side-by-side with the xB1, and Yaris for 3 years. It mostly worked because they all looked extremely different. To non-car people, that's enough to separate otherwise mechanically similar cars.
Pretty sure they do. This car has been rumored since the 86 rumors started, just took them a little longer. Oh and the Yaris/xD/xA/xB did not work at all. The xB sold a ton because of the space, the Yaris and the rest barely sold any since Toyota did near zero advertising. Most dealers don't stock any of those 3 cars because they don't make any money selling them.

Is the platform for the Yaris really that much lighter than the platform for the current generation MX-5? If so, colour me surprised.

On a funny side-note, Toyota actually did advertise the Yaris this year... in the movie "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2".
