TireRack Order :D

After a spritely cruise through the woop woop area of Pinjarra this past Sunday. I really feel that the stock HP Primacy's just don't cut it in the grip department.
So I ordered a new set of rubber for my baby :P

Sometimes I wished I lived in the states, you guys have everything SOOO CHEAP over there. SHIPPING is the PRICE OF TWO OF THESE TYRES..

Update: one of the fellow members of our 86/BRZ asked if I checked the local Michelin shop for prices.
They don't have the PSS's.. but they do have the PS3's(on special) @ $225.00 per wheel fitted and balanced. Soo I have decided to go with these guys instead and help support our local businesses

PS3's aren't *as good* as the PSS's.. but still top tier for an all around tyre that you can still use on the track(not keen on swapping tyres back and forth for track days.. yet).

HKS Header Installed!

Had my HKS headers installed(after almost two weeks after receiving them)!!!
Car runs totally different now. Rev much more freely, and a little more oomph.
Can't really notice the torque-dip... much, but it is still there.

I had it installed by "Exhaust World" in Northbridge(via recommendation by Steve T @ City Toyota) by Peter. Address: 404 Newcastle St, Perth WA 6831 Phone08) 9228 3244.

He runs the store solo and is very good. It's one of them old fashioned no bullshit workshop/garages. Price paid for the install was VERY FAIR.. and cheap considering from what other places I have heard. Highly recommend this guy to any Perthie who wants their headers installed.

I arrived there 9:30am. Car on hoist with fan blowing on the header(to cool it down quicker). Header was removed and replaced with the HKS very quickly. I left the workshop before 11:00am. Fantastic service.

Anyway.. as always.. some happy snaps while work was being undertaken.
I didn't have to use the extra sensor cable(extension?) supplied with it either.
Also applied some of the heat wrap to the hoses(radiator hose) and heater? hose. You'll see in the pics below anyway..

OEM Header Removal

Radiator hose which needs to be wrapped.

Fumoto Valve (F108N)

Old OEM Header

No Header

HKS Header Installed

Sensors connected

Heat Wrap
Put some around the radiator hose. Hose clamp around it for good measure.

Part of the heater hose was wrapped too. Hose is about 4-5cm away from the header, but thought it a good idea to wrap it anyway.

Perrin/Cusco install

EDIT: Some additional info on the HKS Headers

But seriously, a lot of people are not getting CEL's when they install o2 sensors properly in their headers/ Some headers do not have sensor plugs and they are just clearning the codes. Here the person at least tried to properly wire in the post header sensor.

CEL issue.. hopefully not!

Hey! Don't jinx me! LOL
Included with the HKS package was this part here:

I was informed from a fellow 86 owner here that it may need to be actually used to fool the computer into thinking that there is a catalytic converter in the header system, when there is actually NOT.

He said he will follow up with Bruce @ Performance Wholesale sometime today to confirm WHICH sensor(first - facing up/forwards or secondary - facing to the right side) it needs to be piggy backed on. Apparently it has some kinda resistor or something to fool it? I personally haven't opened up the package myself to check.

Peter the guy who fitted my exhaust said, if there is a CEL issue, it would pop up within the first 30km's and not straight away.

Drove the car home from work tonight.. awwww man.. this is one of the MUST-DO mods(if you are keeping it N/A). This is the way the car *should* have performed from the factory.

I just cannot wait until I get the TRD Airbox and get a tune
That should keep me happy for a couple of months.. I think that will most probably be my last lot of mods for the car.. unless I decide to get a 'special' performance enhancing CF part

thanks Steve for your explaination.

my goal is to get CAI, header + tune as i'm staying NA. so your information and write up is much appreciated.

you are still running stock overpipe and front pipe right? has noise level gone up much after fitting the header? any smell with 1 cat deleted?

thanks.

Michelin Pilot Sport 2

Got my new tyres installed today!!
After that Nanga Road run near Pinjarra last week with the 86/BRZ guys.. I feel much safer riding on these tyres

They are: 235/45/17in and cost me $220 each!! (I was quoted $225each) but the guy let me off $20 It did take 2 hours to install as they were flat out.
Apparently these tyres are on 'special'.. sooo if you want a pair of uber daily driver/occassional track usage tyres, these are your best bet!!

The sidewall of the tyre looks so much better now. Looks more tough I reckon, instead of that gay 'stretched out' look.

Some pics.

@Nardi330:

Yeah I'm running just HKS Headers > Stock Overpipe > Stock Midpipe > HKS Cat Back
Noise level has gone up slightly, sounds a bit more aggressive/throatier.
Also the accelerator pedal revs FREELY, you'll be suprised the first time you rev the car, as the pedal feels very light.
There's a slight bit of smell too, but nothing too obnoxious.

Also, I've clocked up 80km so far with no CEL issue so far(touch wood). I hop e I don't EVER get it.

What was the reason for wanting PSS's (even though you ended up with PS3's)? I'm wanting to get a new tyre and have heard a lot of good things about the Goodyear F1 AS2's through reviews and tyre tests. The stock tyres loose the back end way too easily around roundabouts in the wet.

And have you noticed any lose in feedback since changing tyre and/or wider wheels?

PSS's are OEM equipment on the high end/high performance cars(eg 458 Italia)
PS3's are also OEM equipment on 'sporty performance vehicles'(from the Michelin brochure)

I really wanted the PSS's but I couldn't pass up the PS3's @ $220 per corner fitted and balanced. Otherwise I would have had to shell out $1088.00 plus $25 international bank fee + fitting/balancing at a wheel shop. Worked out time wise and financially better for me to go for the PS3's.

Also was just reading up a few reviews of the tyres. It was either the PS2(which are being discontinued), PS3 or PSS's for me.
