3 months and a ~1200 miles on the new pump: still no crickets on the 10% ethanol 91 octane gas we get around here.

One thing that I find interesting with this second generation pump is the inclusion of a reduced fuel pump cam lift profile on the intake cam of the 2017 engines. Obviously, the 2017 ECM is designed with different fueling parameters to match the reduced fuel pump flow rate, but retrofitting the newer pump to the older engines means the new HPFP is operating with a more aggressive fuel pump cam profile, and consequently, at a higher output than the 2017 engines. This makes me wonder if the new pump design was optimized for use with the milder fuel pump cam profile, and using it with the 1st gen camshafts will result in lower pump life, or an eventual return of the crickets that would otherwise not appear in a 2017 engine.
No expert on this, but what about the engine in the 2017 auto? Isn't that unchanged? Does that one get the 2nd fuel pump as well?

Correct, the automatic still has the old engine setup and tuning, but it's still likely that they would have started using the upgraded fuel pump on everything in 2017 to avoid having to deal with people bringing it back to them anyway if the chirps show up.

So far it's been about 5 months, a bit over 4000 miles later, California E10 from Costco @ 80+ degrees. No Chirps.

Okay coming back now to ask this, hoping for an update... Has any BRZ owner had success going to Subaru with this? Last I checked, it was unclear if Subaru had a new TSB vs the ones in the past for the same issue.

Would you have chirping at that temp and that gas with the old pump?

If you have audible chirps and a pre 2017 model you qualify. I had a recording of the chirp and they accepted that.

True, but the engines are the same, I couldn't see why they wouldn't accept the Toyota TSB unless liability reasons stop it. Here's the TSB PDF, http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...53&postcount=1
check the VIN sequencing. Print out the TSB and take it to the Subaru dealer and see what they say. If it was built at the Gumma plant which all of them were.

Attached is the last TSB specific for the BRZ revised in 2013 for 13-14my BRZ's
Take both and at a time when the chirp is audible, summertime usually, and see what they can do. If it bothers you and the dealer says no, call Subaru.

Just more worried about Subaru dealer denying the work because they cant order the same part or they dont think they'll get reimbursed by Subaru for it.

But thanks, I'll print out both and probably drop by this summer when the crickets come back. Haven't noticed them much during the winter.

I've had crickets since I bought the car in 2014. I got the new pump in early March. So far, no crickets.

The Toyota dealer didn't question the repair and it was all covered, free of charge.

Subaru TSB 09-54-12R. '13-'16 BRZ, last updated 9/27/16. Some get just the pump. Some get the drive case and a left side rocker cover.

Do you have the actual TSB PDF? I cant find one thats from sept 2016.

EDIT: On subaru's TSB site I only see "09-54-12" and "09-54-12R". The more recent of the two was dated 10/28/13 :|

I don't have the PDF but that's what a
dealer will find when they look it up on STIS.
