12900k is solid for the price sure, and it's nice it brings competition back but in gaming you're looking at mostly single-digit performance increases at the expense of significantly more power consumption.

All we need Intel to do is to drop zen3 prices.

There are reports that 7000 and 4000 generations of AMD and NVIDIA GPUs will be using almost double the power that current gens require. So not only Intel's new CPU is very power hungry, your GPU will be asking even more, making for a very efficient space heater with the ability to play games at a ridiculous speed.

No thanks, I already have to turn my AC down when running my 3800X/RTX2080S rig. My office/game room is at the end of the AC run but still. Another reason i like gamestreaming to my tv downstairs, let it heat the room then lol.

I’ll probably hold out for a used 5950X after the new socket is in full swing, and a ~200-250watt Radeon 8000/RTX 5000 as the ‘final form’ of my current rig. Then once that can’t keep up I’ll probably be able to justify building a new DDR5 rig.

Yeah turning my room into a space heater does suck.

My next upgrade is probably going to be the CPU, I have zero issues with the 5600X, running it on DOCP is more than enough without the need to OC further than the 4.2GHz limit it sets.
New CPU, new cooling, and probably a PSU with a higher refresh monitor will probably be my "final form" too.

It took me forever to find a GPU, I can only suspect the new GPUs will be as hard if not worse.

The 3000 series are already nuts. The 2080 was designed for a 215W Max draw, the 3080 upped that to 320W.

If you compare the 2080S to a 3070 (~same power draw), the performance improvement isn’t great. I’m much more impressed with AMD’s offering this generation. They stuck with similar power draw as last Gen and matched Nvidia’s performance.

Hard to believe it will swallow 600 watts as that is a serious amount of heat to dump and will most certainly require a water cooler and a good size radiator.

My 5900x, rx480, and 6900xt all at full load (~600 watts) will heat my water loop (420mm & 240mm radiator) up to ~40c with a 70f ambient which is getting close to the edge of what water loops are safe to (~50c is generally accepted as the limit)
