haha! just to be clear, you and I are in agreement with this. The Prelude came out with the wrong wheels being driven. It's the one and only car I've bought and will ever buy that is FWD. I've been given a 90 civic and a 2000 accord V6 LX, but those weren't by choice.

I'm just hoping it's faster than the Prelude, which shouldn't be too hard if they hit the proper weight requirements.

With all the safety features now in cars how hard will it be for Toyota to get the car below 2700lbs? The Miata weighs like what, 2500lbs? So throw in roof + c pillar, rear seats, a little bit longer and wider all within 200lbs. I guess that should be doable.

That's what I'm saying, but as long as it's close to 2700 pounds and close to 200hp, I'll be happy.

Well there's another point to be had here: The Miata is convertible, so some extra chassis bracing will have been 'designed-in' when it was designed, compared to a car that has a roof. Because the FT will have a roof, this removal of bracing, along with the addition of the roof, should result in pretty much no weight gained, or lost. IMO.

Whatever engine they decide to go with, I just hope the power is "useable" in the midrange rather than having to rev the engine all the way up to get the power.

But having the higher revving engine with power available up top is what makes it fun! Not to mention the great gas mileage when just cruising in the low rpm band.

Hahaha, yeah higher revving would be tons of fun as well. I keep going back and forth, but not having to always downshift to get into the powerband would be nice. Oh well, will have to wait and see.

I love a screaming engine, But I gotta agree I like a little mid-range power for daily driving. It isn't always practical (esp. on a date or something) to be revving the hell out of your engine.

One of the reason's the LFA's engine is so epic is because it screams to 9k but still makes great power starting around 3k.

I'm still confused by people's "need" of mid range power for 'practical daily driving'. Even my AE86 has enough mid range power for 'practical daily driving'.

So the worry/complaint that the engine needs this fabled mid range for 'daily driving' is....well, silly. If you're just daily driving, doing errands, etc., you're not racing. And if you want to race around town, well, you're gonna be screaming the engine anyways.

So I guess...if you want low-end / mid torque for fooling around with people on the road but not actually racing, but just fooling around....I unno, -don't- get a 4cyl below 2.4L?

Subaru uses them. AVCS is like VVT-i, AVLS is like VTEC.

Sorry by timing I meant lift duration, which I'm fairly sure Subaru does not have (continuously variable)? Last I checked Subaru was a little behind on valve tech, and their new FB engines aren't even replacing the EJs completely right?
