Got my second UOA from Blackstone.
Oil history: Factory oil (Miles on oil: 2,363) Subaru (Idemitsu) oil (Miles on oil: 5,108) Subaru (Idemitsu) oil (Miles on oil: 2,652 -- Decided to switch to Amsoil) Amsoil Signature Series 0w20 (Miles on oil: 9,514; changed oil filter at ~5500 miles) -- UOA: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1778644 Amsoil Signature Series 0w20 (Miles on oil: 10,421; changed oil filter at ~6000 miles) Amsoil Signature Series 0w20 (Current oil; planned 12,000 mile interval) All oil filters have been the Subaru black filter. Engine air filter is a Perrin foam filter. I followed Blackstone's recommendation on my previous UOA to try 10,500 miles for this interval. Probably will do a 12,000 mile interval next time. Increasing by 2,500 to their recommended 13,000 mile interval is just a bit too much, but it did make me laugh! I was expecting their recommendation to be 11,500. |

Problem with these oil analysis is that they do not take temperature into account. Oil react differently when it is running in operating temp.

And running an oil at high temps on a regular basis can impact several things like the viscosity reading, wear metals, Total Base Number, etc. For example, someone that is tracking their car and consistently running high oil temps may have high fuel dilution, increased wear, low flashpoint, and a low TBN. You can then adjust your oil choice accordingly (thicker/thinner viscosity, higher TBN, more robust additive package, higher flashpoint, etc.). Of course, one or two random uoa's won't tell you much. That's why it's helpful to establish a trend of several uoa's to get a clearer picture. |

Track Sample
Here is an oil sample of Mobil 1 0W-20 after (8) 20 minute sessions on track at MSR-Houston (about 500 miles w/ driving back and forth to the house) and an additional 817 miles of street driving. The oil change interval was about a month. The car was on version 2.08 of the OFT 93 octane base map. Other modifications were a drop in filter, Perrin silicone inlet tube, Carbotech XP10s, Castrol SRF and 225/45/17 Dunlop Star Specs on 17x8 rpf1s.
I usually only log one session per weekend. The data is from the second day. I don't time myself, but it is was most likely one of my faster sessions. This was my third track weekend. The oil temps were above 220 F for 16.25 minutes with a sustained peak of 258.8 F for 2.28 minutes. The outside air temperature was around 60 F. I have hit 258 F on every other track session I have logged, including one in Houston in June, most likely 90 F+, although the car was completely stock. I used 5W-30 for my last track weekend with no problems. I had a test kit laying around, and the oil seemed to have an odor of gasoline so I decided to send in this batch. Thought I might as well share the info. |

Good barely used oil analysis, but are you 100% sure this is Mobil1 0W20? The ZDDP readings are way off. So either this is not M1 0W20 or this is lab error. I would expect p to read anywhere from 700-800 and z to read 800-900.
https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us...ecs-guide.ashx I would send BS an email if you're sure this is Mobil1. |

Oops, my bad! So virgin phosphorus is 650 and virgin zinc is 750. Your uoa phosphorus is still 200 ppm's off and zinc is 300 ppm's off, so I guess that's "normal" for Blackstone!
http://www.penngrade1.com/zinc.aspx Have a look around. I'm sure there's another M1 0W-20 uoa on here. |

5500mi on oil (whatever subaru dealership put in), most of those miles on E85. They've scared me a bit with the iron levels. Thinking I should lay off the E85 just as a precaution for now. |

If using e85 try to change oil a bit early.
When the e85 is burn it is more likely "dry" residue, petrol in the other hand CO2+H2O Something like that iirc |

For Texas temperatures might also be worth running 5W30 or 10W30 especially if you drive hard or track. Dealers in Oz are putting in those viscosity oils now at standard service instead of 0w20 if your seeing oil temps over 230F then its probably worth running the thicker oil. Aftermarket air filters may not filter as well as stock filter Last edited by steve99; 05-11-2015 at 06:17 PM. |

Just did an oil change today and will be sending my sample into blackstone once i receive the kit in the mail. I'm using Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w-20 so we'll see how it works out.
One issue though. I have filled it up with 5.8 qts of oil but it still does not even reach the mark on the dipstick. I have tried driving around a few miles but it still says its low. I dont want to put more oil than this car is supposed to take.. any suggestions? |
