So, I headed up to the cemetery late afternoon to dig a hole in the ground, 3'x8'x7' deep. At about 9 PM I was about 1/2 way done ...... yep, many roots and rocks. The funeral was the next morning .......

So, I ran into town and called my brother to bring another shovel and an ax and come up to help me. He said that his car was tore apart and the only car in the barnyard was my grandfathers white Cadillac and he had left with my parents.

So, since the keys were in it, he drove it up to the cemetery, which was on a hill overlooking the small town. He aimed the headlights down into the grave so we could see.

When we were about finished ...... the constable cautiously drove up and ask us what the hell we were doing ... ?? He asked for the registration for that Cadillac, but of course we didn't know where it was.

Well, he "let us go" and we finished ...... but it was only 6' deep ...... my father in law was not happy, but he paid me anyway.

$50???????? In the early 60s?
Damn, I only made $7.75 an hour. Only took 15 minutes to dig one with the old Massey Harris though.

I'm starting to feel like an underachiever as someone who has only figuratively dug another person's grave.

I worked in the warehouse for a JR. College here in the Bay Area when I was in school. We had to deliver to the cadaver lab. They got a new batch every quarter. At the end of each qtr they loaded them up in the cremation boxes and I would have to load them in a van and deliver to the funeral home. You never forget that smell.

ROM? Went there a few months ago. Had so much fun. Was especially funny to me when I saw a big fuck off British flag in the indigenous display.

Well, ya, $50 ...... but, it took me 8 hours. However, I had to give my brother half of it ....... but, on the other hand, I didn't have the expense of "your" fancy equipment ...... all I needed was a shovel and an ax ........

.......so, that makes me ....... the winner (or does it .... )?

Another story ....... from waaaaaay back in my pre-teen years, when guys wore jeans and girls wore dresses.

Back in the sticks, us young boys got a kick out of scaring girls. We had this one town girl that said that nothing we could do could scare her (wasn't there one of those in every class?).

So, one warm summer night we set her up. The cemetery was just on the outskirts of town, so as us four boys and three girls walked to the cemetery, us guys were telling spooky stories.

Now, the fifth boy, named Chad, was hiding down in a fresh dug grave at the edge of the cemetery next to the woods. We all walked close to the grave site and dared this "unscareable" girl to walk up to the edge of the grave by herself.

She did ...... and Chad reached up and grabbed her by the ankle. She didn't move nor did she scream ........ she just stood there. We thought she was truly "unscareable".

Then Chad yelled ....... SHE JUST PEED ALL OVER MY HAND AND ARM.!!!!...

THE END

I would pay money to see that happen. The grab and no scream not the pee!

I grew up right across the street from the cemetery I worked at and when I say across the street I men less than 100 feet away. It was a Memorial Gardens type where all the headstones are flat and there were no upright monuments. Looked out my bedroom window on night just after dark and saw car lights and since that was really weird I went out to see what was up. There was a family with a station wagon (62 or 63 Chev and don't ask me why I remember that 50 years after the fact) busily setting up a tent and unpacking camping gear. I guess they thought they had found a nice park to camp in for the night.
I went in and told my dad and he grabbed a few beers and we all went and sat on the front porch and watched the show. Well they very quickly got all set up (no small feat with 1968 vintage tent) and all the lights went out. About 1/2 an hour later there was this blood curdling scream, they all scrambled out of the tent and ran around in circles looking at the ground with flashlights. The man yelled "IT IS A FUCKING GRAVEYARD". They were packed up and gone in minutes with the woman sobbing loudly the whole time. I guess one of them discovered the headstone and all hell broke loose. My mother still brings that story up every opportunity she can.

Went to see this about 10 years back when they had it up over here. Really cool stuff!!

I cooked some seared tuna tonight... and it started out completely raw.

That's about as good as I've got.

I'm about finished pressure washing my 1400+ sq ft deck.

Yep, it used to be a "party deck" ...... now it's a "play area" for the granddaughters.

Damn, I wished I had a pressure washer like the one like mrs @Tcoat bought instead of my 1600 psi electric ...... I could have done it a lot quicker. On second thought, one like Tcoat has, just might have blown my 34 year old deck apart .....

Besides, if I bought one like that ...... I might be accused of trying to keep up with the Tcoats ......

I do know that my old lungs do not like the deck cleaner (sodium hypochlorite) ....

Here is a gem some of you folks can take away ...... note how long it takes you to do a project (x time) ...... add in watching a kid while your doing it (2x time) ..... factor in age 74 (2x time) ..... age 74 while watching a small kid (4x time).

So, a one day job has taken me all week........and I still have to weather seal/stain it.

Oh yes, mrs humfrz put up some new shades on the adult part of the deck .....so, I had to spray paint the deck furniture to match (another "hit" on my old lungs from that crap in the rattle cans). Now, she thinks we need new chair cushions to match ....... ALL because I decided to spruce up the deck for our grandkids to play on .......

What's a grandpa to do .......

Please get a respirator. And not a garbage paper mask, but an actual sanding or painting respirator with replaceable filters from the hardware store. 3M makes really nice ones for not a lot of money. It's better to pay $40 and look silly while you wear it than it is to have that crap build up in your lungs.

I have this one. I bought it for fiberglass work and use it when cutting MDF, and it makes a world of difference.

Good suggestion!

I have several charcoal packed respirators around somewhere, from my many years of spraying experimental pesticides.

I will dig one of them out ........
