I don't know this guy, so I can't vouch for him. But on behalf of IT guys everywhere...

PUT IN A GODDAMN TICKET TCOAT!!!

Doesn't even matter if it gets solved in less than three seconds. Having the ticket in and checked off is the only physical proof that the work was ever done when something invariably goes wrong in the future.

Also, depending on the ticketing system, the IT team can communicate: what work has been done, methods tried, or where hardware has been left. That way another tech can pick up the work right where it was left off instead of starting from scratch again.

...sorry for shouting, was having some intense ticketing related IT flashbacks.

I had no issue putting in a ticket and fully understand their value except it can only be done online AND I HAD NO INTERNET Dude didn't even say "oh let me take a look" or "maybe something simple" the first word out of his mouth were "you will need to put in a ticket".
