Yea, remember the Founding Fathers were actually rebels that rose up against their own government. This was their mindset.

Where I used to live, you needed 5/8 drywall on any garage wall that is shared with a living space.

I mean, that would be ideal.

Really, you can use whatever you want, it's just if you ever sell the place it could get called out. Some codes take into account of year the house was built, and some they will have you do even if was implemented long after the house was built. I know the fire barrier has been called out on older houses a lot over here and is part of the national building code. I had a house that sold a while back where none of the bedroom windows meet egress requirements, but since it was old enough that they didn't have that code back then, and the windows I put in where to replace existing, it wasn't enforced.

I hate coming back from vacation. Not because I have to go back to work but because I have to make up for what didn't get done while away.

^This is spot on. If there's someone else who can take my place when I'm gone, prob my workload might be lower... but atm there's no one else can take it, so here I am making up for what I missed.

In my job there has not been anybody else that can do my job for 30 years now. It is nice that nobody messes things up but sucks that they can't take some on either.

30yrs?!?!?!? That's a damn long time. When you retired, are they gonna replace someone else? Or they just gonna say fuck it & wing through it?

Most likely it will be a combination of the two, because any time you replace someone you are sort of winging it to see if it works out.

Same, my phone doesn't stop the whole time. Makes it hard to enjoy time off.

Not 30 years in one place. 30 years in the same profession. It is the same no matter where I go.

Sounds like my job. I was the only one that knew the budgeting and reporting system. I customized it with ssis and other tools where it basically took care of itself (sat on Microsoft SQL) The vendor used to call me for problem solutions. I knew more about the system than its owners. A few hours a week of dealing with rejected data, New users, and new accounts, and then 30 hours a week of shit posting on the board. I begged people to learn the system for YEARS, but no one. Sure enough, every time I went on vacation, something would break. Always got calls.

Then, when I suddenly retired with 2 weeks notice, shit hit the fan. I hear they spent over 1 mil on a new system after I left, and did everything on excel spreadsheets the year I left. Tough for a multi billion operation. I hear my name was mentioned a lot in meetings after I left. I'm sure not good. Fuck them.
