People complaining about the Scion should look at this price list for the MR2.

T-Bar Roof adds about $1,000. You could get upgraded leather interior for about $1500.

Of course the USD was worth a lot more back then too...

I would think so.
Clearly they are. Maybe not this car so much, but the brand in general? Definitely.

Scion's market is aimed squarely at 16-25 demographic... just ask them; they're proud of it. Scion's primary TV ad market is Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block 9pm-4am. So yeah, Scion's advertising is for bunch of kids and young adults. That's not a bad thing that they know where their market is.

Exactly. I would have thought that would be fairly obvious to most people. Best way to figure out the target demographic of a TV show is to look at the products advertised during the breaks, and vice versa.

Bet there aren't many Scion commercials on during episodes of Law & Order or 60 minutes. Flip over to a UFC fight however, and there's probably one every single commercial break.

There's been a lot of recent studies related to how employers should hire from this demographic (e.g., 21 to 25 years of age; the ones who are relatively fresh out of college) in the current job market. One of the things that's pretty prevalent about this generation's age group: there's never been a larger sense of entitlement compared to previous generations at the same age. And we're seeing it now in the form of persistent whining about so-and-so car not having (options for) keyless entry, HIDs, leather seats, bluetooth, etc.

Really, if someone wants something their way, go to Burger King. Otherwise, quit whining and go buy a different car.

I am extremely excited about this car and I'm grateful that they are keeping it simple.

And for those who are unhappy with the fact that it's going to be sold as Scion in the US - If you love Toyota for whatever reason, it's because you have respected their decisions in the past. Have some faith. Scion is still new, and TOYOTA feels as though this is how they need to sell the car.

I went from being very unhappy and disappointed about this car about 2 months ago, to just bouncing off the walls in joy about it now

I love it!
Thanks, i absolutely love this new car. It's giving my generation our version of the Ae86(possibly my favorite car). I love how this car is for an auto enthusiasts like myself and many others.

That is why Madfast is a sad panda. If the nice stuff isn't offered as an option on the Scion, it is only because somebody in a suit decided that it was too much of an inconvenience to do so.

Or they needed a way to differentiate the two car brands.

Thinking about price, many of us want this car since it offers a great handling car at a decent price. However, if the Subaru is +$4k premium over the Scion, I think many of us might have to question whether that price difference is worth it (regardless of dual HVAC, seats, nav...etc.). Subaru can't price itself too high above the Scion without putting themselves at a disadvantage.
