Some Canadians dealers are going to try to screeeeew buyers of this car. Take these examples:

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pm...515675795.html

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pm...480618617.html

OVER $30K and $33K FOR TC'S WITH COSMETIC OPTIONS!!!!!!!

And remember our money is about 5-6% MORE than the US.

However there are still legit dealers it seems:

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...529800461.html

This is pretty much bang-on what the website says. A touch under $21k.

So lesson to Vancouver area Canadians:

Open Road Toyota in Port Moody wants to have rough, un-protected bum-sex with you.

Jim Pattison Scion downtown is playing nice.

That is the pure pricing. If you go to the Scion website and add all the options one can add (TRD wheels, TRD tires or whatnot), you could get one tC with 31K or so. But, those options are not performance related (well, probably except the tires.). I am guessing that is the problem that Dimman is referring.

Im talking about the ft86 here, I want the purest sports car possible for this model.

That rear seat space is a gimmick anyways, but thats not in any part of what Im saying here, trunk the coupe.

PS there is another thread for this debate, feel free to post there about this.

Now on to topic

I'd think that the subaru model will start at sayyyy $24K?

Wow, I'm absent for a few weeks and now the board is thinking along the lines of "26k is fair" for this.

Looks like Toyota's marketing machine still works.

This thing is worth 21-23k tops. At 26k it's a joke...

Something to also think about with Scions/Japanese cars in general right now is that inventory is crazy low. My local dealership down the street has exactly 1 Scion tC in stock right now. Another dealership in town only has 1 Scion tC as their entire Scion inventory. This is me living in San Diego with a port of entry not too far and a large customer base of Toyota buyers. So for a dealership to want to make some profit and add ridiculous accessories and options is crazy but makes business sense when it might some of the only vehicles they sell that month.

My local Scion dealership, Germain Scion of Sarasota, has plenty of inventory. I've been driving past it 4 days a week for 6 years, and it doesn't seem any more scarce than before. It's the same dealership my mom bought her tC at 5 years back.

I see your point, but if Toyota wants this to be a success they won't do that^. It's one thing to charge a lot for a limited production vehicle, but charging extra for low inventory is a joke.

  • Toyota hasn't marketed this car at all, it isn't on the market yet.
  • How can you assign a value when you haven't driven it, and you don't know the final specifications?

  • One can argue Toyota/Scion started their marketing at NYIAS.

While I agree it is hard since the final specs are not released, one can do a general comparison against other cars in its segment. Sure this is the only affordable, lightweight, 2+2 FR bla bla bla, but that still won't take away from being compared to other "similar" cars in the low-mid $20k range.

It is a joke. But it happened on the GT-R launch. $70k MSRP, sold for $130k. Ridiculous.

FR-S will be the most limited production run in the Scion lineup and will be priced higher than its siblings (xB, tC, xD, iQ). At first, major dealerships will have 2 or 3 in stock, others won't have any. This is how it was with the initial launch of the '05 tC and how it will be with the iQ. But even then, it will be pure-priced. And I don't think they would price gouge by adding accessories. My dad's new Tacoma had a $700 alarm pre-installed before he bought it. He didn't want it so the dealer took it out.

Earlier in the thread we had it being compared with a 370Z, Mustang, Camaro, and Genesis Coupe. What segment is this car supposed to be in, exactly? Without a Silvia or S2000 around anymore, the closest car I see the FT competing with is the Miata, which ranges in price from $23k to $33k. The other car that shares similar goals with a very different method of attacking them is the Mini Cooper S, which also has a broad price range close to the Miata's.

I'm all for hoping for a reasonably low price tag. When I go down to the Scion/Subaru dealer, I intend to evaluate the FT alone, none of their other cars interest me, so using the car as an overpriced hook would suck (for me).

1 to place on the spinning platform to draw people in, 1 manual, 1 auto? I think they'll do more than that, but I'd still want to custom order anyway to avoid any Joe Blows hooning with my potential car prior to purchasing it.

That's part of the marketing strategy behind branding it a Scion. The FR-S as the flagship makes econo-box buyers excited to get one of the more affordable little siblings. By the same token, the LFA is the overpriced hook luring enthusiasts to look at the FR-S, of the same bloodline.

The production line won't crank out FR-Ss at full blast on launch. They'll trickle them out conservatively then ramp up the supply gradually, all the while using sales numbers to calculate how many to produce long term. Dealers don't have much say in what they get. It's a case of beggars can't be choosers (dealers are the beggars). Highest volume dealers get picks of the litter and everyone else, probably depending on sales history, gets leftover runts til none are available.

So do you mean we won't be able to order? I'd definitely do so if my color isn't in or the cars are optioned out with expensive stuff that I don't need. I'm talking about Scion specifically.
