Anyone here goof around with Google SketchUp?

Just wondering if anyone likes it or thinks it sucks.

Since I kind of don't like it so far.

Its not that bad, especially it being free

On another note.. I saw the new '13 Gen Coupe.. it's actually not that bad in person, or at least all in black

I have to say aside from off topic and regional, I probably read every single post on this site. Or at least I have been since I've had these last 3 weeks off

Not sure if this was intentional, but I think you've discovered the real problem with the GC. They used SketchUp to design it.

It was just OK. I did use it for a simple design of a table I was working on. It just seemed like they tried to dumb it down a little too much. On the other hand, I know a lot of woodworkers that love it.

I actually thought of ablation would be an issue, but its still ice until its all gone! Maybe that's it, it takes that long for a 10lb bag of ice to vanish.

Well compared to other programs its a bit limited. But yeah I guess you're right, it isn't as bad considering it's free.

I haven't tried the wood work feature yet, though it could come in handy on a little project in the future.

I'm currently going over car models in it but man is it frustrating.

This depends on what you want to you. With woodworking, your know your basic building material are rectangular objects (2x4, 2x6, or whatever) so it is easy to model those. In fact, it helps you to put things together virtually so that you know what to do in real time before hand rather than during the working.

Furthermore, it gives you a visual idea of the things you are making and then you know what parts/connectors you need to get. It is very helpful in woodworking or architectural design.

Car design, on the other hand, may not be suited for SketchUp. The main reason is *surface*. It is not easy to make a curvature and to make a surface out of it.
