Thanks - hadn't been looking, but a quick Google search turned up 4 Aussie reviews, as their writers were invited to Fuji for a track test.

One interesting change I have not heard mentioned elsewhere-lowered peak torque RPM:
Quote:
Toyota has also remapped the torque curve of the modified manual to bolster response at lower engine speeds. The 212Nm of torque now available arrives 200 rpm earlier than before (now 6400-6600rpm) while the 152kW now on offer arrives at an unchanged 7000rpm.
The new suspension is tuned for a softer rear and a firmer front, which according to one source gives the car a more Miata-like handling feel, with better communication through the wheel. Edit - actually 2 of the reviewers found the car to feel more Miata-like.

Thanks - informative, and some really nice videography here - I love the new look, that CWP car looks fantastic here, especially without a front plate. They've really managed to tone down the "mouthguard" look to the point where it's a non-issue.

Great that this reviewer owns an ND, makes his analysis of the handling that much more relevant. He finds it rides less harshly on the road than the prior generation without sacrificing any of the turn-in or handling.

Also interesting -- a written comment he made in response to a question by someone who noticed the car sounded better - he said it's got a better growl than the old Series.Blue he tested.

Yes, the new 86 has a stiffer front and softer rear but it also received a 1mm larger stock rear anti sway bar. There's also reinforcement made to the rear shock attachment point.

Front and rear bumper has been revised for better aero and of course, those nice LED lights in front and rear. The suede material is really nice too - helps deflect some lights and provide a bit more sound deadening.

Love to see Randy Pobst's take on this - he loved the old car, and preferred it to the FR-S, but gave the nod to the latest Miata in a Head2Head.

My Toyota 86 review:

It's a fantastic little car. The FR-S has grown up a bit.

The content on the new 86/BRZ is really picking up. Love the Redline Review it went way more in depth than anyone else has cared to go.

Here is another solid review with some actual wheel time. Sorry if it's already been posted.

The new 86 front bumper is ugly in my opinion oh and I don't need steering wheel radio controls.

Just one of many opinions posted on the webz.

^The only talk about he actual drive was in the last 30 seconds; he seemed to notice more compliance on the road, everything else felt much the same; that is about the sum total of his observations.

So a '13 brz owner here, just drove the '17 toyota 86. Here are my impressions:

Slightly quicker on the butt dyno, and torquier than the zenki probably due to the shorter final drive
Torque dip is there and readily apparent, the torque kicks in abruptly at 5k rpms
Smaller steering wheel makes it feel more responsive and tighter
Dampening is very good and smooth, though it was a very smooth road, little to no rattle and the body just seemed stiffer.

Oh and I don't know if it's just me, but the engine note did sound like it breathed a bit better.

If I were looking at a buying a new car, I'd get a 17 model, and if i was going to mod the heck out of it, I'd get a zenki and use the money to mod it.

the engine differences weren't substantial enough to make a difference for the zenki to be considered out of date.
