Actually I think the 2jz would rock, but what if Toyota created an engine equal to today's high output cars yet on the level that the 2jz was on in it's day, which is still going I might add

I smoother and better breathing EJ255 would be the ultimate top trim imo. In a perfect world it would get a EJ257, but I think the 255 with around 250-275 would be fine as well. With some work it could run with the base Carerra.

putting a 2JZ or EJ25 will make the car a 30K base price rather than the current, due to more weight of drive train, heavier/thicker/better pannels would have to be used either jacking the price up or jacking the weight up..
this car is fine with the 2L boxer its rumored to be getting.
and if rumors are true, that it is a ej20 block, it means that there are SO many forged kits out there already, boosting it would not be a problem.. and with the new direct injection heads toyota is rumored to be desiging this thing would be a monster with a proper tune. u cant compare a manifold injected SI engine with a direct injected one. might as well start comparing it with a rotary LOL

Don't be jealous anyways I just think it would have been cool for Toyota to engineer a engine with as much effort as was put in to the 2jz. Not that there's anything wrong with the ej25, I'm also a big Subaru fan and think this will be a great platform for a 2700-2800 lb car, just saying what if

Balance my friend, balance. With an EJ boxer four mounted way behind the front wheels, this thing will turn-in incredibly well. Some thing you MR-2 guys should be a lot more familiar with than us Supra guys.

Performance car guy first. Supra guy second.

But, foreign to the MR2 guys, an FMR has few problems with cooling or engine bay space, and can have a trunk / back seat ^^

actually, SW20s have plenty of engine bay space. there's no battery, no brake booster/master cylinder, no p/s equipment, no radiator/condenser, steering rack... it's just the engine, transmission, turbo, and intercooler. roomier than you'd think.

however, as far as intercooling, we're more limited. most high-hp guys hack up the trunk and put a giant i/c core in there with fans, or they use a/w or meth injection to keep things cool.

EDIT: also, FMR is a silly made-up marketing moniker. it's just FR. i promise.

No no no, it's totally official! It's even on Wikipedia!

Otherwise, interesting.

I think it has a legitimate place in layout nomenclature. There will be a huge difference between the handling properties of this 'FMR' car vs a full FR car like a Supra that has a bunch of iron block sitting in front of the front axles.

yeah front-midship rear is a really good setup for handling. because the less weight you have outside your wheel extremities, the better you will turn

Dosn't have to be the 2jz, I'd just like to see Toyota put the effort in to an engine like what they did for that, we all know they can create greatness when they want to
