Thumbs down

FTR I linked that article in my original post just for reference. My thread was meant to be a general discussion about a future Z sports car, particularly because the current one has been out for 10 years. I thought about not linking that article (or one similar) but figured someone else would if I didn't.

As to the 2 of you arguing about sub-prime loans and car sales, who gives a sh*t. FFS, could you pick anything more boring to argue about in a thread about a new sports car?

Personally I feel that Nissan's quality went straight to hell as soon as the French took over. But I'd still consider a new sports car by them.

I'd love to see it, but feel it's unlikely. Nissan is in Honda mode of 10 years ago. "Let's make boring shit that sells to everyone." Everyone's throwing money at crossovers and EVs, and the coupe market is a bit crowded. Even sales leaders like the Mustang and Camaro are down, when they're (numbers-wise) their best ever. A new Z would probably be a great car, but people would bitch that it's not under $30k ("It's hella expensive brah"), or under $25k ("Why not just get an EcoBoost 'stang?") or $20k ("Dude, for that price just buy a used turbo 86.") Kinda like the story of our cars.

The merger happened in 1999. Since then all car brands have improved reliability seen here:

http://www.nola.com/business/index.s...ality_rel.html

They are 11th place of 27 brands for reliability. Infiniti is 7th place. Nissan is two behind Honda, and Infiniti is 12 ahead of Acura, for comparison:

https://www.consumerreports.org/car-...they-stack-up/

If by quality you mean interesting cars then for your consideration: The Skyline GTR ended in 2002, and the new GTR began production in 2007. The G35 coupe (aka US Skyline) was also a big hit in the tuner community. The 350Z was released in 2002 when most other manufacturers were ending production or considering ending production on their sports cars, or releasing flops. For all the complaints, the 350z/370z has been a success for Nissan. All this since the merger.

According to Carmaker1, the Z is dead. Also the R35, will be heavily updated for 2021. Don't expect to see a new R36 anytime soon.

The R35 GT-R, will be heavily updated for 2021. R36 is currently not in the cards.

It is unfortunate, but the Z35 had been in planning development on and off for the better part of this decade. By the end of 2016/Jan 2017, a more upmarket design (described as eons better than current, if not best), utilizing the VR30TT engine from the V37 Infiniti Q50/Q60 had been approved by ex-design director Nakamura and senior Nissan personnel.

Failure to once again establish a sound business case for principal shareholders and board of directors, has ensured this car will have no future pre-2025. As you can see, just like the Infiniti Q80 flagship, Q40 redesign, QX70 RWD redesign (S52), and more, things just keep being cancelled.

I report on these programmes, only to be hurt when cancelled so abruptly. It makes me look bad. I do not know what to say for this company really, as only one more new Infiniti is on schedule for mid-2019 (not including excessive delays) and then nothing until calendar year 2021. All to prop up the struggling Titan.

The Maxima and Murano will be facelifted for 2019MY, being launched in late 2018 and December 2018.

The U.S. Frontier will be "updated" in mid-2020 (pushed back Q1 from 2019). Armada and Patrol will be all-new in CY2021. A new Sentra will arrive for MY 2020, after 2019 Altima (L42P) in September 2018 (Job 1- 08/18).

Regarding any "400Z" and R36 GT-R rumours, IGNORE THEM as they are plain clickbait nonsense and have no real basis after January. Don't expect a new GT-R (R36) until near 2025 at least. No new performance offerings outside Q60.

It's not really surprising if true. Manufacturers are having a hard enough time selling midsize sedans like the new Accord, let alone small 2-seat sports cars.

What the market wants is more crossovers, lifted station wagons and SUV's.

Maybe they'll freshen up their lineup...i don't think the Harley Davidson and Jeep business model of selling the exact same thing for decades on end works for anyone but Jeep and HD.

The only Nissan car I ever liked was the 240sx..
and I'm using the word 'like' very loosely here.

"Off with the bloated Z's head!" lol

Not relevant here but let's not forget Lada!
