Just as you are not supposed to put your foot lightly on the clutch say when your at a light in neutral... Cause that slight pressure causes wear on the throw out bearing.. So if you are taking up slack by this adjustment .. You might be actually causing the throw out bearing to be engaged..
Again.. I don't know the "feel" or have any hands on with this car... Just know how it works and what could be happening if adjusted incorrectly..
This is a misconception of what this adjustment actually does. You aren't changing anything in the clutch. The actual engagement isn't changing in the slightest. What you are doing is moving a lever to a more comfortable position. The only way you could screw up the clutch is if you held the pedal down while you adjusted the sensor. This would cause the clutch to be in a permanent state of partial engagement as if you were riding the pedal all the time. The actual clutch pedal adjustment (more accurate way of describing it) has no effect on what is going on down in the clutch.

Just did this. Made a huge difference! Not sure if it's just me but the clutch feels a bit lighter when you first step on it. Is this normal or have I done something wrong? I've set it to about parallel to the brake pedal.

It's not really lighter, but the decreased travel length kind of gives the illusion that it is.

Just did this, it's 100% better. Definitely bring a ruler, I thought I'd eyeball it and going down there twice is not advised.

Did this today, HUGE improvement in the clutch.

I did modify the technique discussed however, Subaru didn't intend for you to spin the metal rod to adjust the clutch.

I took off the safety clip, squeezed the plastic safety clip on the pin and took out the pin then pulled the rod down and spun the long "u" shaped bit down, took two tries to get it at a point I liked but it was much easier that trying to spin the rod. Also the gear indicator and cruise worked without adjustment.

I adjusted mine level with the brake pedal and I agree with you. After only adjusting the clutch pedal (not the sensor), the first 1/2" of pedal movement (free play?) is very light/soft and was a little unsettling at first. It really does feel like the spring tension was reduced after this adjustment. Or maybe it's the initial spring tension when putting the clutch in that is now diminished?

No more over-revving at starts, and my 1>2 is much smoother!

I have not gotten the second part to adjust the sensor yet, but the clutch feels really loose, like if I just tap the clutch it moves around alot. I wondering if thats normal? and will that stiffen up after I complete part 2 of adjusting the sensor?
Did you fix the loose feeling?

Yeah its fine now, I think its cuz I didnt do the second part and I hadn't tightened the bolt up enough for the first part of the mod.

Everything is going well, I might move it a bit lower sometime soon though to test it to see if it feels better.

I ended up moving it back up a little bit. It's slightly easier to get into reverse now. I was probably a bit too low. I'd really like to raise the accelerator some.

Finally got around to this short project. Thanks to OP and all who helped for the info! Have't driven enough to say whether it makes shifting a lot easier or not, but everything seems great so far!

Note: I had to use one of my football receiver gloves to get enough grip to turn the threads into the bracket but pushing on the pedal a bit plus something to use for grip makes it 100x easier.
