How many cars actually exist in that weight range?

I can think of the MX5, a few Lotus', the twins...

Pretty much those three. Actually the 3400 lbs on the Corvette IS light, for an American car, American car weights are in a completely different realm than the real world.

Expectation was Mustang will be lighter than before, and same applied to the Corvette. Reality seems to be both will or in the Corvette's case has gained weight.

The only cars that seem to have delivered on the being lighter promise is the new M3/M4. They are both dropping about 180lbs in weight from last gen to the 3350+/-lbs range.

Lightweight relative to this forum would be 3000lbs or lighter. There are plenty of light cars but not RWD sporty cars. Honda Fit, Civic, Versa, Mini Cooper, Fiat Arbath, etc. are light, they are just not RWD sport type cars.

When you are looking for a less than 3000lbs RWD or MR setup car you are much more limited especially if money is an issue. In the 30k range you got next to nothing.

Mustang size, even with smaller turbo engine will not hit 3000lbs curb weight. I realistically expect at least 3200+lbs even for that model. If Ford makes me eat crow I would actually be happy about it.

The M4 will clean house, BMW got that car right.

Lamborghini Huracan. 3100lbs dry with AWD and a V10. Not too shabby.

Quite a bit in the 2700-3200 lbs curb bracket. Off the top of my head:

- FR-S / BRZ
- Fiesta / ST
- Mazda2
- Mazda3
- Civic / SI
- Corolla
- Prius
- Cruze
- Sonic
- GTI
- Miata
- Elise
- Evora
- Cayman / S
- 911 / GT3

And I'm sure I'm missing a good number. In fact, I would say the truly lightweight cars are sub-3000 lbs. That would cut about half the cars off the list above.

I like how the debate swayed to listing light weight cars. I'm still dreaming and scheming to hopefully get a 15 if not a 16 gt with a v8. God willing it will happen.

I agree with that. I've always thought 3000lbs or less is what makes a lightweight- or.lighter weight. More like 27-2800lbs is where I like to be. Another reason why I'm a fan of the older cars like the rx7, nsx, integra r, 240sx, and pretty much all Japanese performance cars that came out of the 90's. This is one of the underlying factors why the FRS won me. With everything porking up in size these days, it's a breath of fresh air that the FRS came back to lightweight.

Yeah I just wish the FR-S had met its original target weight of 2600 lbs. Still possible to get there though.
