The heritage is still visible. Never said they were identical. Does the concept that there are similarities offend you in some way?

No, it doesn't. I just don't see the similarity. At least not any more so than a comparison between *any* smallish 2-door 2+2 coupes. They both have windshields, side windows, and rear 1/4-windows, a hood, fenders, roofline, etc., but the proportions are *way* different. For sure the Concept 1 is a bit different from Concept II and production (which are fairly close in shape), but if anything it's LESS bulky and LESS like the tC. Other than being a smidge more in the "cab-forward" direction vs. Concept II and production.

Oddly enough, I think the look more alike from the side. In fact to me this looks like MK1 and MK2 of the same car. In the end it's opinion.
I also happen to think the production 86 looks more like a current version Nissan Z car than does the actual late model Nissan Z. Again, just opinion and prospective.

Here they are together:
One of these things is not like the other... I think that *minor* design details like black a-pillars may be influencing opinions here. AS far as the shapes of the cars, *particularly* from the A-pillars back, the concept and production cars are *clearly* very similar, and quite a bit different from the boxy tC. A-pillar forward, the concept has a much lower hoodline, more sloped downward towards the front of the car, and less bulbous fenders above the front wheels, which is *less* like the tC. Are you guys being thrown off by minor details like the tC and concept both having black a-pillars? Or something? As noted before, the concept is *slightly* less cab-rearward, so *slightly* less 240Z-like. But still a LOT closer to the production FT86 than to a 240Z, which is *really* cab-rearward! Jeezis I need another 240Z... Last edited by ZDan; 10-10-2019 at 05:18 PM. |

What you described is the squashed tC that started this.

If by "squashed" you mean the concept's *slightly* less cab-rearwardness, it's pretty slight, and again the concept and production cars are close to each other relative to the cab-forward fwd tC. Or relative to the 2-seat cab-rearward 240Z. |

I think the fenders are sexy as hell, the twins look awesome from every angle. And I love seeing the front fender bumps while driving, it makes the car so easy to place on the road. I really hope the 2nd gen retains those traits. Please Toyota don’t overdo it, you can design gorgeous cars when you want to. And everyone needs to stop posting pictures of the tC. It’s blocky and square in design. Not saying it’s ugly, it’s just not an FR-S Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The biggest visual disappointment for me, when the production car came out, was how much higher the hoodline is compared to the FT86 Concept 1. The Concept 1's hoodline is extremely low - much like an S2000's. Production car's is significantly taller (thanks Europe...)

TC, Concept1, and FR-S honestly look more like Gen 1, 2, and 3 of a particular car and I still think the concept looks closer to the TC than the FR-S.
Shorter and more heavily sloped hood vs the curve of the FR-S and the fender humps. Also a chunkier looking roof line where somehow the FR-S has a much more flowing line. |

To be honest, that came out before I was following the development so didn't think about it, but yes absolutely I love the Concept. I'll take one of each please.

Guys the hood on the Tc is like 5 inches long, and yet the front overhang measures half a mile.
The proportions of these cars aren’t even close. I can see a few similarities in the detailwork but that’s really it. |
