Matador is correct. I actually work in new model development for the largest parts supplier in the world. I have seen a few 3 year (total) development cycles, but they are very rare. 4-5 years is about right (from initial concept to SOP). When I say concept, I'm not talking about the physical concept vehicle, I'm talking literal concept. It all really depends on how many parts can be carried over from other projects, or previous years.

I never said Matador was wrong nor questioned him. What I asked was if it has actually been in development for 3 years or if that's how long we've known about it.

I know about car cycles, my only gripe is Toyota has created a second body yet Subaru doesn't even have one yet and they both started working on them the same time. We have seen the mis-matched body now for a good two years testing.

I will guarentee you that the body for both have been established already (assuming they are in fact coming out this year).

Even if they were to do in-house stamping for body panels, the tooling time required would be at least 1.5 years.

I hope so. The more I think about it you're so right. The Subaru version is the tester and the Toyota version is pretty much everything else. So I'm guessing combining those two things together you get one car for both manufacturers to differentiate.

The one thing I also love about this car taking so long is that I have saved up quite possibly 60-75% of what I think this car will cost and that's not even including selling my paid off RSX. I'm looking to buy outright.

I wish I had just kept saving, but I ended up buying the Genesis. Oh well, I don't owe anything on it so I can just sell if I REALLY like one of the FT iterations.

Yeah, dude I actually know you from GC.com(SUB-GEN). I was saving up for the GC too but wanted to drive and see the FT-86 before buying a car and possibly regretting it.

That's where I know you from as well! I assumed it was you, but then I saw "RSX" as your car...so it threw me off.

Subaru rarely put out concept cars out. Most of the time 6 months ~ 2 yrs range for before they put it out on production. Recent example would be new Legacy. Legacy concept was unveiled in NY IAS (iirc) and less than yr later new Legacy came out.

so I'm betting that, real Subie ver won't be seeing til next yr.
