I recently did a track day on the Primacies as well. I threw tons of abuse at them in two days with 2 hours of sessions each day and they held up very well, even with completely stock alignment. Granted, they're really lacking in ultimate grip compared to the tires I'm used to, but they're very predictable and easy to drive. Great novice tires.

Right on! We speak the same language.
I starting getting into performance driving since the summer of 2014. I did a bunch of Autox and getting into Track/Circuit days. I have been modding my Mazda3 and decided why not test out all the performance parts I installed. Luckily the parts I used worked very well for both autox and track. I started getting traction and able to get quite notable results this season, surpassing more sports oriented cars such as FRS/BRZ, Miata, Z, etc. Also a lot of fun chasing down others cars with my buddy's FRS on the track day, and quite a few times I push the car hard enough that I get brake oversteer going to u-turns at autox. It was an amazing season, but it's inevitably I need to move on the a more sport-oriented platform than making a compact family sedan a harsh ride on the street. Recently acquired the FRS and getting used to manual and rear wheel drive. But one thing is that the driving skill and knowledge stays with me. It's something money can't buy. On the other hand, the mazda will be stock out and return to a state where it's more compliance for the rough roads and winter here. FRS will carry on the fast life.

Good thread. For novices it's understandable to think you need track tires when you prep your car, but you definitely learn quicker on less grippy tires.
Even now as I'm running higher groups, I find less sticky tires are fine. I did most of this past season on mediocre Nitto NT05's, and the only reason I upgraded from previous Sumitomos was heat resistance. (235 width NT05's take heat much better than 215 width Sumis.) My latest tires are cheap "old stock" BFG Rivals. Part of the fun is figuring out how to keep up with faster tire cars. ![]() As others have mentioned, the only part of your post I disagree with is that EP tires snap oversteer. You might be thinking of R comps or slicks, but EP tires are fairly progressive, at least on the FR-S/BRZ chassis. Nothing to worry about there.
