Wait, so you weren't asking about the weird bit hanging from the inlet hose (not shown in your picture or the Perrin diagram, but is right below the resonator)?

Resonators. I installed the Mishimoto silicone induction hose (?) a while back. In their build thread they have a correct explanation to why you shouldn't remove the resonators. (Unless you re-map the car.)
Since I'm new to the forum thing and suck at computers I can't give you a link, but the thread shouldn't be too hard to find for someone more in the know. (If I found it, anyone can.)

That's the one. I had the resonator (the one on the hose) off first. Then on. Noticeable difference.

Runs better. From what I can feel the dyno runs they present are accurate. Runs better both at low loads and low revs up to high load and revs. All along the curve.
