I'm going to have to go with Orbital on this one with regards to the fact that stereotypes exist for a reason. I don't think there is going to be any startling revelation as to why there aren't more girls lurking around car forums or into the automotive scene. If you think about it, even the guys that are on car forums are out of the ordinary when you look at the general population. For most people cars are just a way to get from point A to point B. Only a small portion of us are interested in them beyond that.

I don't think the V8 or turbo thing is a very good analogy. That's simply personal preference or stubbornness as opposed to someone just not being interested in a certain subject or activity.

Eh. I hate car meets. I hate most of the people there after attending a few of them. Most guys if not all--have the same mindset. "She's a girl she doesn't know shit." I ask a question they look away. Unfortunately I don't look like an import model so answering questions I have don't work.

Shit.. there was an instance where I went to a meet and I heard from a distance "THIS ISN'T THE KITCHEN BITCH!!"

Yea. Fuck most car guys. Glad I found a forum that's a bit more mature and appropriate in many ways.

Should have yelled back "And this isn't a bathroom, Asshole". Or something to that effect.

Either way, those type of jerks are the same way at a car meet that they would be at a bar. You know, the kind to shout after a girl calling her a bitch for walking away from his rude ass before he finishes his lame attempt at a pick-up.

And OP, for the record I'm going to have to agree with Orbital and S2K; when you're good enough at what you do you'll eventually earn the respect of your peers regardless of gender. Matter of fact the best Call of Duty player I know is a girl (also she's leader of the clan that I play in), I mean I don't know how good you have to be to get an E3 invite but she was invited. Funny thing is she isn't the bragging type but she'll jump on any opportunity to rub that in the faces of all the chauvinists she encounters. After all what better way to kick someone with a superiority complex in the ego than to beat them at their own game?

Well if some women were ever wondering about that before, now they have some peeked interest from some of these guys in here checking up in their purse forums.

It wouldn't be the first time. The only reason I knew about the purse forum is because it was brought up on a different car forum I'm on

Aye, I like purses especially if they are carrying certain things in them.

Granted I will agree that male dominated forums usually aren't the best when it comes to new members, but I doubt a more cordial attitude is going to magically shift the demographics of a place like this.

Edit: I know I didn't really respond to the first part of the OP. IMO the guy was being a d-bag, and you can find those just about anywhere, not just in the gaming or car scene.
IMO it's way more about gender then sex. It's been ingrained into us since we've been born what we should do and have interest in. Example: Give a girl a cooking set while you give the boy a toy gun

Haha I noticed this as well. I played in Japanese servers in CS 1.6 and the chatting is completely different and almost shocking how polite they are.

You say that, but most of the car enthusiast friends that I have don't consider a car "cool" or "sporty" until the cylinder count under the hood is at least 8, and most of the cars that they really like have (at least one) turbocharger or supercharger.

Hence why I've come to the point of accepting what they're interested in, and just keeping my opinion of an awesome car to myself unless somebody asks for it. (For reference, one of them saw my computer desktop and asked me if it was a, AND I DO QUOTE DIRECTLY, "Sports Prius".... )

But sadly most of what I have to say about the OP of the thread has already been said, so I'm out on that note..
