My roommate works at ACT, so don't hold your breath. I'll have one before anyone else and I'm not expecting it any time sooon.
p.s. the exedy kit that comes with the flywheel is just the OEM replacement.

I have a forged steel flywheel on my celica for this reason. Rotational weight makes a huge difference and it only weighs 9 lbs!

It may be worth considering a clutch and flywheel assembly that are balanced together. I run lightened pulleys, prolite flywheel and alum driveshaft and other than some cosmetic NVH issues, I have no drivability or CEL issues. I had my clutch and flywheel balanced as an assembly and the balance shop did have to make some adjustments to the clutch cover.
Also a driveshaft shouldn't have much to do with idle unless you have an automatic which you obviously don't. At idle you are clutch in or in neutral no? |

It's more the cars ability to catch the idle when it's coming down that causes most tuning issues and stall problems.
Lightening the drive shaft can add to that on in gear decels but it's not usually as big of a problem. This will be my first time trying it on an FRS though. If I do lighten the factory flywheel I will have them rebalance everything again just to be safe. With the prolight is it indeed unable to mount to stock like everyone believes?

I suppose, I haven't experienced what you mentioned. I will say, once you have all these parts, you'll want to set idle to at least 900rpm. You get alot of drama when the AC kicks on at the stock idle. I have mine set at 950rpm currently to deal with my flywheel chatter while clutched in.

Thanks I will make sure to do that, what about the prolight only fitting specific clutches?

I didn't experiment with any clutches. I ordered a stage 1 clutch with a pro-lite flywheel, had it balanced and installed it about two years ago.

Then I wouldn't lighten the factory flywheel, but just save for a flywheel designed using lighter material yet just as strong if not stronger. If you're planning on adding lots of extra torque to the output shaft, I wouldn't go weakening the item which is the engine-part of the assembly which transfers that torque to the transmission.

Meh I may also sell the car and get an NSX by that time so I can't be sure what I will do. I like my FRS considerably but it's been a long time and I need to have some fun in it again to remember if this is the car for me or if I should find an NSX.

Well, after reading the responses after, I still maintain reservations but it sounds less like a risk than I'd previously thought.
