Learn to drive.
I take my BRZ instead of my Cavalier when there's snow.

Even though it's pretty cold out here in NYC right now, i'm still driving my BRZ around. When it snows and it looks like its sticking though, i'll leave it at home and just take mass transit to work.

People have totalled their car GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE on relatively clear roads with summer tires on in the winter!! The rear end just decides to go its own way without warning and you're suddenly spinning towards traffic/concrete wall.
You can't afford NOT to have winter tires on your car. Ask anyone that wrecked in the snow on summer tires and now don't even have an FRS to drive. Some shops will store your old tires for you. TireRack will ship you steel rims with winter tires mounted and balanced. These cars can carry a set of 4 wheels in the car so even if you can't swap them in the street, a shop could do it in 10 minutes. You really have no excuse. Cost? This is one of those things you figure out. Put it on a credit card and quit getting Starbucks for a couple months, but get your priorities straight. Not just you, but every other wahoo who thinks they can handle summer tires in snow. Glad you're not posting a "do you think its totalled?" thread. |

I'm a new driver and my BRZ is stock (with stock tires). So I was pretty nervous about going anywhere with it. Didn't drive it for a whole 3 weeks in a row because it kept snowing and the temps never stayed high enough for everything to melt away. These past two weekends I've been driving it though. Below freezing, but the roads are pretty much clear. Still ended up drifting a corner this past Saturday because it started snowing halfway through my drive and I hit the throttle too much mid-turn. It was a good learning experience, no damage to myself or anyone else. I'd never drive it without snow tires if I saw as much snow as I see in that picture you posted D: |

My dealer swapped my wheels and tires for $40 since I didn't want to do it in a parking lot in November. You spent >25k on a car, and >600 for snow tires and wheels. Go get them put on, before you or someone else gets hurt.

Getting ~20-30 degrees slip angle without warning and having to countersteer with cars around is not pleasant. Also not fair to other drivers. I would consider snow tires a must if you're planning to drive this car through snow/ice.
