No. exFAT is MS proprietary bullshit and they charge for it.

Merry Christmas to you, too!

I don't think I get a FAT32 option in the drop-down. Any ideas for reformatting to FAT32?

Cheers !

How big is the HD?

And not critical but what brand/model#? I'm Linux now so I have to switch over to Win7 and poke around.

You don't get it because your HD is bigger than 32GB. Native MS tools won't let you create a FAT32 partition larger than that. I managed to create a partition as large as 32700-ish MB before it switched over to exFAT.

GParted had no problem creating and formatting a 230 GB partition on another USB HD I have. I think the hard limit is 2 TB. You can create a bootable CD to use it & I'm happy to help if you like. Beware though, once you start tinkering with open source, you can't unlearn the truth.

I stand corrected. I just wish there was widespread support for NTFS, ext4, XFS, etc in the peripheral market.

Ultramaroon...I tried formatting my 1tb drive multiple ways and the BRZ will still not recognize it. I created a 32gb partition and formatted to FAT32, but no luck. Losing faith this is going to work.

I am powering the HD via two methods...

Using the single USB port
Using both the port and a port in my glove compartment using a Y-splitter cable to ensure enough power.

The drive is spinning with a solid light, so there should be enough power...I just cannot get the system to detect the drive.

A 4gb flash drive works fine.

When you formatted your drive did you make any additional partitions? If yes was at least partition 0 a fat32 partition?

Chimera...there was an additional very large NTFS partition...both were labeled Primary. Do you think that it might have confused the system?
