Sunroof negates chassis regidity and low cog. Not to mention crash rating god forbid u have a roll over.

it would be nice though to be able to vent some of the heat from the interior without having to roll down the window

If I were to use copious amounts of money on a targa top, I'd be stripping weight elsewhere so I can beef up the pillars for a rollable frame, without it compromising the chassis (hopefully)

You are right of course, if not done correctly. With a Targa you have enough roof structure left that you could potentially beef up the rear "arc" and maintain some of the rigidity, particularly if you have strong enough insert.

By the way the new C7 Corvette is technically a Targa and I don't hear anyone complaining about its rigidity.

That said, I do know from where you speak. I owned an '83 Z28 with a custom Targa top in it. For the most part, I couldn't tell the difference between it and one without it in DD aggressive driving. But, it died a horrible death when it was rear ended by a pickup and pushed into a garbage truck. The frame folded up right where the roof should have been. Below is the Firebird version of it, from the same company.

In regards to a targa top mod trolling the chassis rigidity, most modern removable top components are pre stressed (think Aventador Roadster or C7 bette) so when the removable roof is attached the car, it acts an element of the chassis, only when is it removed does the car become spaghetti again

So theoretically if you had the money, someone could custom build a CF roof that (when on at least) wouldn't completely ruin the chassis rigidity, and keep it fairly OEM-ish

*inB4 an engineer shitstomps my post with facts lol
