Don't know actual measurements without finding a ruler, but it does work at least an inch or so I know for a fact. Will still work with phone cases but if you're looking to put your phone in your cup holder and charge that won't work, too far and phone has to be face down or face up to get connection.

Awesome guide. I ordered the parts last night and hopefully will get to put this in over the weekend.
I was wondering if there is anyone who can do a 3d design of the current cupholder, but with only one cupholder, possibly with a generic slot in front taking up half the size of the front slot. I have a 3d printer and would like to print one out so I could have at least a single cup holder while still being able to lay my phone flat for the wireless charging, unfortunately I can't do 3d modeling to save my life

Yeah, that would be a great idea, a single cup holder with a small pock would still leave plenty of room for even a large phone like my G3. I looked online for one but no one has made something like that unfortunately. I was thinking of just chopping my cup holder in half but it wouldn't look all that great, 3D printing one would be awesome. I have done my fair share of modeling with solidworks but not sure I could measure the dimensions perfectly. I might try it though, and use the 3D printer at NCSU's library here to test.

Cool. Well if you can model one up I can try and print it on a low res and see how it fits before printing at a higher res. I thought about cutting mine as well, but you never know if you'll want it later. And if we could get a custom made one it would look better, and be more functional.

I've got a suggestion on the parts front,

you wouldn't have to go through the micro USB conversion hassle and all,

Good Initiative man. I have a slightly similar idea, I'm not sure it'll work but I'll post that up once I verify it.

Will this take 12 VDC directly?

Not really sure about that. I'm assuming it should work normally. I picked up on the idea from this post.

I'll kick this idea out there.

Wire this guy up and figure out how to mold it into the arm rest. You would have wireless charging, wired charging for non qi devices, power with the car off, and if easily removable something for power on the go outside of the car.

Any way this could kill your car overnight? I added the charger in last night and the car started fine. This morning though the battery is almost completely dead

I didn't think so. Maybe it was after leaving the doors/lights on for a few hours yesterday? But I wouldn't think that'd be enough to completely kill the battery either. But it wouldn't even start. So getting it towed to the dealership now

sometimes the battery has been abused at the dealership so even leaving the lights on without the engine running, can kill the battery. if you car is still under warranty, then they should replace the battery free
