Can't blame him. Sometimes there are things you just don't really take into account after driving/owning a car for a period of time. I had driven a couple on different occasions before purchasing and there are things I never noticed until I owned one/had to live with owning one.

It's a good car but it's catered to a specific type of person. Those are the ones that will get the most enjoyment out of driving it. I've thought about selling it on numerous occasions because of things that just really bothered me. I keep talking myself out of it in the end though. It's cheap fun and does everything I need a car to do right now. I don't regret my purchase but I know I won't keep the car forever.

I'm also curious as to what you got after selling the BRZ

I agree on the road noise, for me this combined with the meh stereo make it hard to listen to podcasts or pandora on my daily commute.

Not to mention the ringing in my ears if I drive over long stretches of concrete roads.

Here is my theory on why some people are so disappointed with the twins. I buy and sell used cars. One thing that is frequent with car buyers is that the car they are buying needs to be a "step up" from their old car. If it does a few things better that their previous car, it is an easy sell. This applies to this topic because the OP has probably had a luxury car or some sort where there was a premium stereo and it was quiet on the highway. OP may have only had these type of cars his entire life. So climbing into a twin he would immediately notice the stereo isn't the best and it is loud on the highway. I came from a beat 1998 Subaru 2.5RS. My FRS felt like a Bentley compared to the Subaru and I love my sound system.

The BRZ is not the greatest commuter, I'll agree with that. That's why I bought an Audi for a daily, and a damn quick one at that! It's quiet, stable on the highway, has a great Bose stereo, all-wheel-drive for inclement weather, and (*gasp* I can't believe I'm about to say this; I must be getting old) a capable automatic transmission for when Boston traffic rears its ugly head.

Of course, 7 months after buying said Audi I moved 2.5mi from my work so I'm not sitting in traffic on the highway anymore... oh well, I still need a daily for for times when the BRZ is getting work done to it.

I agree, DO NOT get a Mercedes, Audi, or BMW unless you are leasing them new. Otherwise you will be regretting it once it starts breaking parts and yes this happens below the sub-50k mileage range. The definitely do not make German cars like how they use to! I know from experience.

This car may not be for you if any of the following are true:

its your only car,
you have children,
you have a tight budget,
you have winter and don't want to be hassled with snow tires,
you don't want to change the factory radio,
you expect a quiet cabin,
you have no tolerance for "quirks"
and finally if you have friends.

Or Certified Pre-owned with a 6yr/100k warranty, or have a full garage set-up at home and know how to work on them yourself. They certainly can get pricey when sh*t starts to break. Luckily for me the only unscheduled repair I've dealt with in 9 months was a faulty coolant temp sensor which I replaced for $27. If my transmission goes, however (and they're notorious for this), say goodbye to six grand.

I'm definitely shopping Japanese once my VW GTI gets over 60K miles.

I'm modded and still on the original grenading water pump, like the previous Euro cars I've owned it only gets more expensive as they get older.

Calm the fuck down.
Who's raging? I'm just telling it how it is. Sorry Canada for being blunt. Besides, people post things to get reactions/comments from the readers. As others have said, the car isn't for everyone, there's no one-size-fits all car. Everyone else here has also been giving advice without him "asking" for it. That's just how forums work. You post a problem or something that's perceived to be a problem, you get people chiming in. Get used to it.

From OP's "reasons," it seems that he didn't know what he was getting himself into from the get go. Regardless of how easy it was to read, that still doesn't discredit the fact that perhaps he should have done some more research before committing to a car that didn't fit his requirements. I just hope he didn't take too much of a loss on it, or at least learned from this mistake.

Yes, stay the hell away from Euro luxury unless you have the means to maintain one. My brother-in-law thought he was getting a good deal on his Audi A4 until that POS started nickle and diming him left and right. There's a reason why an $80,000 Mercedes sells for only $25,000 after a few years and a $50,000 Lexus sells for the same $25,000 after a few years. Lexus is probably the most solid built car there is. Maybe except for the older IS250 with the DI only 4gr and its carbon build up issues, Lexus has got to be the best Luxury brand there is. My next car is going to be Lexus for sure. My wife has the hybrid HS250h and I'm pretty jealous. That car is incredible in terms of creature comforts and backed by Lexus reliability.
