You should never have to apply a soap water solution for this type of vinyl. This Vinyl should be done 100% Dry. Only certain types of vinyl work best with a soap water solution such as clear bra installs. Vinyl wrapping takes a lot of patients and maneuvering (placement) of the vinyl to match the curvature of the object you wish you wrap. the wrinkles you are getting means that the placement of the vinyl is not being fitted correctly. You can correct the wrinkles/ creases you get with a heatgun/ hair dryer and a credit card (or something similar to this). Vinyl wraps should also never be over stretched to fit the shape because it will shrivel back up eventually and create unevenness. Best way to start is from the center, in an indoor environment without minimal dust, a helping hand is highly recommended, and just take your time wrapping focusing section by section.

If you try the soapy water solution be sure not to over spray. Because it could bubble after a couple of days. I personally do not prefer the wet app.

How much would it normally cost to wrap a roof with a sunroof? Without?

For me, there is no glide in pulse and glide :p

This will not work with our roofs! There will be way too many fingers. Which will cause marks while getting them out.

All the tips and videos are a great help and i think i will try this one more time on my own. Next time i think i will try laying the vinyl down over a soapy water solution rather than trying to fit it dry.
Did you pre-stretch it?

Release the film off the car. With one person on each side off the roof. One hand on each corner. Pull as hard as you can away from the corner and lower the film on to the car.

yes, even left it out to come up to ambient temp, which yesterday was about 85 when i started, we stretched, lifted, re-lifted, was a struggle.. that stuff is VERY tacky!

My hat goes off to anyone that does this for a living and does this all day every day, the patience level involved is tremendous

I'll give it another shot soon when i have some more free time, and hopefully i'll have mastered before i run out of material.

Im not saying use a finger but the video shows generally how its done. Use a good squegee with a new piece of felt so it doesn't scratch.

lol

Fingers is a vinyl code word for wrinkles/ceases/folds

It means the film needs to be stretched more.

Keep us updated. I suck at phone screen protectors, can't imagine a giant one on my car that costs x3 as much.

I used to wrap vehicles. I normally didn't stretched anything as most of the time the vehicles were for a business and stretching the vinyl would warp the images that was printed on the vinyl. I always started from one end and went to the other not starting in the center, that way you could peel off the back as you went along and didn't have to deal with a giant piece and it sticking on accident. This way instead of heating up the vinyl in the center of the roof for the slanted parts you can actually push it down without having to stretch it. Pushed down from the inside to the out and just went back and forth holding a felted squeegee angled like a snow plow to make sure there were no bubbles. If you have a buddy he can stand on the other side holding the corners up and pull back the underside as you go along brushing from the center to the outsides on the other side. If you are by yourself it makes it a lot easier, as you roll back the backside of the vinyl it will make a nice little bridge for you holding the vinyl right above the surface. They also make a primer that you put around the edges that will help hold it down and prevent the edges from coming up.

That was just the way I used to do it. Just thought I would throw another way out there that worked for me.

I used to wrap my entire car with 3M 1080 few years ago when its just released in SEMA. 3M 1080 is really easy to DIY vinyl at that time. But when Avery SW900 came out last year, I heard its even easier than 3M to install for DIY users. Does anyone try Avery yet? Any feedback? Because my one year old 3M 1080 carbon roof start to fade off, I want to replace it with gloss black this time. Now I am debating between 3M 1080 and Avery SW900.

How do you remove the black rubber pieces on both sides of the roof? The weather stripping things I mean. And how do you remove the antenna?

The weather stripping just pulls off.

The antenna is a simple nut under the roof upholstery.

Very easy stuff!
