You are in New York.. It is going to be like here where these cars sit on the lots starting in October all the way until April/May. If you can wait until winter you will have way more leverage when there is snow on the ground and people/dealers become more desperate to sell a car.

I watched the used market here and once it hit May the dealers started selling the cars that had been sitting for 3-5 months.

So you may be buying at the wrong time if you are looking for the best deal. Also dealers jack up prices on used cars. They typically pad the car by as much as $4K. So you should have negotiating room.

Which dealership is this? I want to work there, $4k worth of gross on used cars? I'd triple my income, holy shit

This was my plan after I realized i was not going to get what I needed for my honda fit. I figure now I'll just save up a few more thousand and wait until octorber/november to buy as I know chances are they wont be selling to many BRZ's come winter time.

I still owe about 2k more than what theyll give me for a trade in on my fit now because of the accident (fit was my first ever dealer experiance and I got fucked pretty hard on it)

All said and Done I'd like to get a BRZ out ther door for around 23-24K

You didn't hit up your insurance for that diminished value claim after your accident?

Ive shipped a car across country. Maine to Arizona for $900 dollars, very reasonable. ^ this is a good idea. Getting a new car that is only a handful of thousands more would be the way to go with these cars.

You do not know the guy who owned the car before you, how he broke it in, how he drove it, the maintenance he had done, was it on time? And the twins have a few problems like most first generation vehicles. What and what hasnt been addressed previously.

I looked at used ones ranging from 20 - 24k, when a new one was 25-29k

You know I was just told about that today when I was speaking with a coworker. First time ive EVER had to file a claim and had no idea this was something I could do. I'm going to call my insurance company later today about this.

NYS has a 3 year statute on diminished claims, accident happened about a month or so ago. I'm getting offers for trade in almost 3000 less than what KBB and NADA value is on my car. Hmm

Well I was told my Nationwide "Diminishing Value" doesnt exist. No insurance company that they know of ever pays out for something like that. My lawyer is going to poke around a bit for me and get back to me. He has actually never dealt with a case involving diminishing claim. If anyone has any advise please let me know.

So in case anyone is curious, ended up getting ahold of the claims company for the Bus company of the woman that hit me. Got a direct Number from my nationwide rep. She seemed pretty suprised I had her number and I mentioned wanting to file a Diminishing Value Claim, she immediately told me what I needed and to fax it to her for review. I have average book value and trade in values from NADA/KBB and 2 different dealers, I also have trade in value as of now that between dealers shows a difference of 2000-2800 dollars. I'm going to submit all of that paperwork as well as an official letter from the shop which did the repairs, a dealer as well as my Lawyer. Hopefully this all works out better than expected.

Nationwide is straight up lying to you (typical for insurance companies)

I was in a minor accident with someone recently, they backed up into me while I was parked.

After filling in some paperwork, I got a check for $650 diminished value, and they repaired my car 100% and the shop gave me a lifetime warranty in writing on the repair work.

If they don't want to play ball, just look up the laws for your state, then get an independent appraisal (will cost maybe $300) of what the car was supposed to be worth pre accident and what it's worth after repairs. Take the insurance company to small claims court for that amount, but let them know first. They may just give in when faced with going to trial.
