I've got Valenti tails on the way to me, so it won't be an issue for much longer anyway.

Edit: I don't think your quote was talking about turn signals. Never mind.
I don't feel like pulling it back up, but I am pretty sure turn signals can be white or amber.

A note on the Valenti tails - they don't contain marker lights and therefore technically make the car not road legal. As far as I know, the USDM Tom's are the only aftermarket tail lights that are actually US DOT legal. And, I am 90% sure that Canada has identical - even more strict in a few cases - laws regarding lighting on vehicles.

Kind of a bad angle (the picture was for the wheels, not the side markers) but here's how it looks with the amber ones blacked out with VHT in case you'd like to see it. I did about 5 coats, plus 2 clear-coats. You can still see the amber light (slightly) and from certain angles the amber housing does shine through a bit. From far away, though, you can't tell they're even there.

It's a marker light. Not a turn signal.
Yes, and I addressed that above that quote. In the part you quoted, I was specifically addressing your comment above about turn signals, in which you were also wrong. No matter how you try to weasel out of it, what you want to do is not legal in the US or Canada under FMVSS 108 and CMVSS 108.

I also addressed why the law was like that. Doing it anyway would make you a douche. And yes, I like that word because it fits. Anybody who intentionally sets his car up to piss off other drivers is a miserable douche.

Yes. CMVSS 108 requires all rear-facing lights other than the reverse light to be red or amber. That includes turn signals. It's not that difficult. Why are you having so much trouble comprehending this simple concept?

FORWARD-facing turn signals can be white or amber. Rear-facing signals, like what he mentioned above, have to be red or amber.

Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

Well shit. I was sure I read that they were DOT approved, but I've just been looking through the posts, and I don't see anything that says that. Back to being paranoid every time I see a cop. :P

Thanks for the info!

Chill the fuck out douchebag. I don't have any issues understanding anything.
I looked up the laws and cited them for the markers, and commented that I wasn't sure about turn signals and didn't feel like pulling it back up to verify. Looks like I did remember right that the front signals could be white or amber. Never once did I say I read that the law stated they could be white and to take my word for it. The only thing I CITED was the marker laws.

I apologize. This white lighting crap is one of my pet peeves, because it shows a clear lack of respect for everyone else on the road. These people might as well just put a "FUCK YOU" bumper sticker on their car. It pushes my buttons, especially when I see someone trying as hard as the OP is to justify this kind of idiocy. I'm sorry if I lumped you into that group.

By the way:

THIS part of the law seems really silly to me. I don't see how a lack of red side markers on non-USDM tails makes any difference in visibility or safety. I wonder how many cops even realize they're not legal. Has anyone on the board gotten a ticket for having them?

All good, I agree - that is one of my pet peeves as well (lighting in general, improper HID setups, etc) which is why I took such offense to being lumped into that group.

It would essentially be the same as removing the front side marker. Some cars that don't have side markers built into the tails (I think the new camaros and mustangs are like this?) have actual side markers on the rear bumpers.

I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for that, much less pulled over for it. I think when it might arise is if one were in an accident. Liability/fault could be changed due to not having proper markers. Similar to somebody having blacked out tail lights and being rear ended.

I've gone with the clear Helix side markers. They were a bit cheaper than the JDM and appear to be exactly the same. I also ordered them with the white LED's. I'll use my own judgement on the brightness and change to the stock bulbs if they are too bright. Typically, I only drive in the day time, so it shouldn't really be an issue.
