Personally I like the 2015, sucker for pearls unless I have to paint them. Bumper matching nightmares! That being said the difference wasn't enough to make me dislike my 02C or want the K7X 2015 color...

Can be. The main difference in a being a Three Stage (Tri Coat) paint is that process the paint is applied. The first layer being a SOLID blue, followed by a transparent layer of pearl and then clearcoat.

The mid coat (transparent pearls) will greatly effect the appearance depending on how it is sprayed. To thin, there won't be enough pearl, too much and the color will be too dark...

The previous WRB 02C is a simple 2-stage paint. A layer of metallic blue followed by clearcoat.

Correct the 02C color is a metallic with big mica metallic flakes in it. This reflect light more so then the tiny pearls used in the 2015 paint code. The pearls reflecting less light=darker appearance and less reflections.

Thanks for posting the in-person photos! Not sure if anyone noticed this yet, but the colors on Subaru's Configurator site are different as well:

Personally, I think the color still looks great. I'm happy for new WRB owners as long as the paint is more durable. I'm disappointed with the paint's staying power on my baby.

I can't tell the difference. Then again I'm on my iPhone. There is definitely a difference between the WRB of the older WRX/STi's and what's on the current WRX/BRZ's.

I thought the WRB on the new WRX/STI looked different. At least this makes me feel less crazy. I have to say though, I dig the newer blue. Even though the difference is very minimal.

Yeah, the original is just a dark blue. No funny stuff or pearly bling.

I still prefer 02X though. It's just unique and eye catching.
