Light weight and great handling. Lots of power put the car into either a cruiser or a muscle car (IMO). Also RWD or AWD. FWD screams cheap to me.

What about a corvette or Porsche GT3?

Soft suspension and heavy weight turn a car into a cruiser or a muscle car.

I've always considered the corvette to be a muscle car. I have no idea why though lol. Probably because it's American built.

The GT3... good question though.

If an evo isn't considered a sports car I do not think a sports car is something to be proud to own then lol. What you can do in a stock evo is just leaps and bounds ahead of most "sports cars".

Fun > lightweight > handles well

Everything after that is preferential.

It can't be a sports car if it's not fun, might as well have a Prius or Camry.
It can't be a sports car if it's a tank, that's a compromise for comfort or power.
It can't be a sports car if it can't turn, that's a boat with wheels.

The poll is laking options.

Personally, i think the chasis makes the car. Everything else is just icing.

If you have a great chasis, you can make great power.
If you have a great chasis, you can make it nimble.

If you design a car just to have high power out put but neglect the other stuff, I wouldn't call that a sports car. I don't consider mustangs, challangers, camaros, 300s/chargers and others sports cars because you slap a 6.2l v8 in them.

I think a sports car has to have a great chassis and suspension underneath it, as well as being fairly lightweight. The engine has to have some character and the body has to announce its intent as a sports car.

I think it's all about the driver/car interaction.
Owning a sports car isn't about driving from A to B, it's about having fun with it, even if it might be "low on power."

Handling is important but there's plenty of sports cars that aren't as nimble as the twins.

Geez! You people are dense. Everyone knows that a Sports bar is a place that serves beer and greasy food and has a bunch of big-screen TVs tuned to all the sports games.

Smart ForTwo? Just kidding!

For me a low center of gravity, good weight distribution and great handeling, are the basic ingredients for a fun/good sportscar.
