I had the same debate with myself for a good month straight.
I originally wanted GBS, then fell in love with all the pictures of SSM. So my choice was silver for a while. Mainly because the pictures were nice and I liked the low maintenance aspect of having a silver car. Then I saw WRB in real life on a bunch of wrx's at a car meet and instantly started loving WRB. WRB is a great colour (true subaru rally colours). For me WRB will always be associated with rally cars of my past, so I can't picture myself loving WRB on a BRZ on a day to day basis, since I don't want to build it as such. If i had a WRB brz I could imagine myself being stupid on gravel roads and going RALLY! all the way in third gear....a lot of stone chips and an empty saving account later would be the result. This in all seriousness probably would only happen once or twice, but it's something that needs to be considered. Just like how every third BRZ we'll be seeing on the road will be WRB and how the cops have already trained their eyes to pick out this colour in a sea of morning traffic. WRB became no longer the colour for me. I like my cars flying under the radar, but at the same time unique enough that I can call it my own. I kept going back to SSM, that is until I saw a silver FRS in person. Even though SSM is a new shade for Subaru it's still very much the silver you see on a lot of cars. It didn't make the car stand out enough for me to consider what I was staring as "badass". Although you would think I was lying through my teeth if you heard all the compliments that silver was getting by everyone else looking at the car. Silver is definitely a colour that you'll have to see in person if it's not already a colour that you're fond of. For me, GBS is my ideal colour (it's low key dark, and BLUE!), but of course being Canadian we're playing it safe and are only getting the three shades and one iconic colour. Unless we get GBS for the 2014 year models (it works better financially for me) I'll be getting a CBS BRZ-L, (yes, i picked Black out of no where!), and keeping it that way until I'm sick of how dirty it gets and end up painting it another colour. This way I get my ideal colour AND black door jams and engine compartment. An out of the box resolution to a month long debate. Don't get me wrong I really like black, just not the high level of maintenance that comes with being a perfectionist who owns a black car.... ![]() hopefully this helps you in your decision. Even if you realize that in comparison colour doesn't matter nearly as much to you and just end up flipping a coin.

I am in the same position as you OP. I was having a tough time deciding between silver and blue, and even now I am still not 100% convinced I made the right decision but I think I will be happy either way.
My current car is silver, I really like the fact that you can go for so long without washing - it seems to always look clean from a distance. That's a huge plus for me, even though I like washing it's hard to find the time. Additionally, it is a very mature looking colour, and it's a classy colour. Sometimes silver shows the lines of a car fairly well, but other times they tend to fade. The blue on the other hand is quite daring, and exciting. It's a step away from my 'neutral' personality. I like the way the lines stand out in blue, I remember my friend going to the autoshow with me, and seeing the blue one and saying 'oh wow I never saw the lines in the hood before now'. I was concerned that blue would be a popular colour, but I have a feeling it won't be so bad once you're on the road because the majority of the cars will be FR-S, not BRZ. And with that said, in total between the FRS and BRZ, there aren't going to be very many period. Anyways, I ended up choosing blue on the day that I went to pre-order, I just wanted to spice it up a little and stand out from the crowd of boring cars on the road with my sporty new car. I'm sure the day that I see a silver sitting next to mine I might have a little regret, but in the end they both look great so go with whatever your heart is tugging you towards. Here's some side by side's to help. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Keep in mind, none of these are excellent pictures of silver, but in my experience with my current silver car, it IS hard to get a good picture of silver, which is why usually the lines are not as distinct. When the light is hitting silver well, it looks pretty damn nice though. ![]() Good luck, there's really no bad decision between the two. Last edited by djdnz; 05-20-2012 at 07:04 AM. |

I'm sure you've already done this but in the off chance you have not, be sure to check out the color threads...
SSM: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3804 WRB: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3809 I wasn't thrilled with red at first, but the more candid photos I see of it, the more I can't help but think how hot it would look with some matte black wheels. Sorry to hear Canada is not getting it. So far it is already shaping up to be the rarest color IIRC. |

My significant other banned me from getting WRB because of the "stigma" it has as a ricer color ( I wanted it personally). However when I saw silver in person I was like yeah the lines show better on silver and it matches the car shape well. So that's what I have now

Thanks for all the comments! Basically my concern is that the silver lends itself better to the function over form style (tow hooks, black wheels, etc..) while the blue seems more "delicate" in a way. I've also owned 2 silver cars and never a blue one. But as was mentioned the blue is exclusive....

My worthless two cents....I ordered a SWP Premium, a Silver Limited was delivered at the same time so I switched and took the Silver Limited home ;-)
But both colors are of course cool! See worthless! ;-) |

I saw the silver at my dealership a few days back (it was the demo car making the rounds in the southeast) It really shows the lines of this car well. It seems somehow very flattering on this car and accents the diminutive size. I have never owned a silver car or even liked it for that matter but it really really suits the BRZ especially when seen in person. I love blue but would have bought this car on the spot if they would've sold it. I truly suspected the SWP to be an under-utilized color (what I ordered). Boy was I wrong!

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the silver showing the car's lines better. Having had both a WRB and Silver Impreza, the blue shows off the curves much better. It goes from a brilliant blue to pretty dark, depending on the angle. It looks amazing in sunlight, and then completely transforms under the orange of a sodium street light. I think it's pretty obvious how much more the shading varies from the side by side pics above.

I'm in the similar situation as OP, but I actually want to switch from Silver to WRB.
Unfortunately, I am being told by my dealer Classic Subaru/Cadillas of Atlanta, GA that I can not change the color of my pre-order from Silver to WRB. Apparently it is too late because my car was already manufactured. ![]() Which I find a little strange since I am last in line(10th) and I don't expect my car to arrive earlier than October. What do you guys think? Is dealer telling the truth and I am stuck or I should just call Subaru of America and check for myself? ![]() What do you think my alt. options for getting WRB in GA this year? Thanks! |

Well from what I heard, it doesn't matter what position you are in line, they are just making cars and shipping them. Just because you hold the #1 spot doesn't mean you will get their first car, so it's possible yours is already made and being shipped.
The dealer I went through had a customer change his color, he lost his spot and had to take a spot further down. |
