Its not Top Ramen. It's Shin Ramyun. Try some and it will change your religion.

Those who have never tried will never understand man! Throw sliced beef, cabbage, and an egg in there and I could eat this everyday if the MSG wouldn't kill me.

After reading this thread, I went back and checked my spending for the last month. The boyfriend and I spend a ridiculous amount on food, lol. We are average-sized people (below average by American standards), but we both work a lot and don't cook much, and we usually go for take out from actual restaurants rather than fast food. We could and have eaten for much less, and I'm sure people can live on $200 a month, but that would be tough and hard to be healthy. This reminds me of the McDonald's budget help site that came out a while back, haha.

Having enough to eat and having enough nutrition are entirely different things.

Lots of places in this country are considered "nutrition deserts".

The wife and I spend about $600/month on groceries and that doesn't include our lunches which we buy at work.

We tend to buy a lot of fresh veggies/fruits and my wife is on a clean eating kick which costs more.

But yeah I'd say $200/month is really low.

My GF and I spend $400 - $450 a month on groceries and typical household supplies (paper towel, TP, detergent, soap, Swiffer, shampoo, toothpaste, etc...)

We do purchase "fancy" foods like: steak, salmon, shrimp, whole chickens, chicken breasts, fresh produce (all organic/non-hormone when ever possible)

We prepare all our own meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We avoid processed and preserved foods at all cost. Don't get me started on chemical/laboratory foods.

If you eat healthy, and not out-of-box freezer food, then I would say that $200 a month per person is accurate.

Edit: this does NOT include beer. I spend quite a bit on beer. Prob $100 a month (Canadian Prices) we cant get beer at grocery stores in Ontario Canada. soon though, soon

Well, I'll have to try this. When I was in high school, all throughout college, and up until a few years ago I loved ramen. But lately I can make some and I get about a third of the way through the package and my body just goes "ugh" and I can't eat anymore. Probably because I'd been eating shitty ramen.

I just logged into Mint to verify, and my budget is set at $600/mo. But I got tired of micromanaging a budget for restaurant dining and groceries separately since there are days that I get home and plans are shot to hell and the kids are screaming and screw it I'm not cooking so who wants take out? So anyway, they're combined, and I very rarely go over. That's for my wife and I, plus a four year old. Baby doesn't count since he just gets boobie snacks.
