The one at gravity auto that was priced at 16,999 just jumped up to $23,5xx lol... Tough to find someone who will pay that for a used 13 that has been in a wreck.

For a daily driver, stay away from Salvaged titles for the simple reason you don't know what damage was done, how it was fixed, if it was fixed properly. To me once cars are in an accident, they never drive the same period.

My Supra is salvage and is about to hit 300k. I really think it depends on how bad the damage was or what kind of damage it was. And of course of the repair work. How good was it and who did it.

Clear title: $20k
Salvage title: $12k

I wouldn't touch a salvage title unless I planned on tearing it apart and examining every weld on the car, you just have no idea how much effort was put into it. Can you trust that the frame is straight when it was done up by one-eyed-Juan? Sure there are gems to be found but there are also nightmares.

Spend the extra $5k-$10k and get one that you don't have to question.

I've heard stories of salvage cars where the new owner goes to slam on the brakes on the freeway to avoid a collision and the repair fails, the chassis twists or straight up breaks and now the owner is at fault for an accident. Check out the salvage thread, what qualifies as 'runs and drives' is downright scary. Like I said, I personally wouldn't do it unless I planned on going through every nut and bolt on the car.

Arlington FRS 18k$ , I viewed it today

Hi
I'm new on the forum, been looking to buy a FRZ/BRZ for a while .

I happened to be in Dallas today so I called the guy 2 days ago to arrange a viewing

He gave me a story (by email) about the door being hit by previous owner and seat airbag deployed but fixed at dealership with new parts etc

He confirmed the title is clear but that carfax would show airbag deployed

So, after a very non-responsive day or 2, he finally called me. He never gave his address or phone number until 45min before the viewing time.

Upon arriving to his house... He hands me the keys and lets me look at it. He continues to work on some dry walls in his garage with a buddy.

So here's what I saw, and I'm no body shop owner, but I've owned 15+ cars in my life.

-the driver window trim is scuffed
-the left bottom base of the windscreen (the black plastic trim with star pattern) has signs of cracking and poor fitment
-hood is slightly raised by 1mm on left side and the hood gap is not straight
-opened the hood, and saw hood painted poorly at the edges (paint has sharp edges)
- all the bolts that hold the left and right front fenders have signs of being ratcheted . The car is black, the bolts and areas around bolts are scuffed
- looked under driver door, the plastic rock panel has signs of putty/paint and some rust on the metal frame

Car does have 78xx miles on odometer (yes the odometer)

So... I told him his car has much more extensive damage than he described and left

Couple hours of time wasted

Lesson learned

When buying used, be cautious everyone!
