Hmmm, I don't really have any intention of making throttle response slower, nor do I want to speed it up to the point where it feels twitchy. Guess I'll hafta pass on this one. Thanks for telling us about it, though!

hello,

we are using toyota oem TB from 3 years now. see the difference between stock 1gr-fe TB (small) and 1ur-fe TB that we fit (big) they have the same connector.

we will do the same with ft-86 that we will fit the 1gr-fe 1" bigger.

since this is the most relevant thread at the moment..

i would like to decrease the sensitivity of the first 25-30% of my throttle imput, it seems that i get the best modulation when the throttle is pressed half way (i guess because the spring is tightning up) but by that point it seems the car is already going full steam.

at least that is what i want to experiment WITH, this APEXI unit seems to have 4 presets but i'm not so sure that i'd want to test any of them, is there a way to modify them?

Sorry to bring this back from the dead... To disable the unit when going backwards there is a reverse wire that needs to be tapped. Can someone point me to where this wire is closest to the shifter? Thx!

Seems like I've got the same problem.

I just got the car today (a MT I might add) and the throttle is hyper sensitive. Under normal driving conditions I need half an inch, maybe 3/4 at most, of pedal travel. It's downright scary when trying to reverse into an inclined parking bay.

Is it possible to have the dealer change the throttle response mapping? I have confidence to get used to the throttle over time, but it seems kinda pointless to have so much pedal travel when the throttle is effectively 'floored' at maybe 40-50% travel.

I hear the Perrin tune will numb out the pedal. (Eta Dec/Jan) but im jumping the gun and Installing the Apexi unit to customize the throttle percentages manually. (Pink wire #5 for reverse tap)

7 presets I believe... No user map customizations.

Did you ever find a solution? I have a long and boring commute and am starting to get a little fed up with my clutch / throttle. The throttle has mapped itself so sensitive that I cannot even touch it at all during a shift or I get a ton of lurch.

Now .. when I down-shift / rev match in this car - the throttle is a complete dog. You don't seem to give much praise to this unit but could it not assist in this situation?

On my Soarer (traditional cable type TB, stock clutch and flywheel) it's a quick stab of the gas and I can match up perfectly or within 100rpm or so. With the FR-S the reponse is spongy and I usually am out at least 3-400 rpm when trying to match. It's much harder to drive in this aspect.

Even my old daily driver 2004 Mazda 3 2.3L which is also a DBW system like the FR-S ... was more responsive when blipping the throttle.

Well it's been almost 10 months and my solution was to get used to it. Yes, it can be a bit tiring in traffic and that's why I've added calf muscles to my workout programme. I also experimented with driving positions until I found one that I can operate the pedals with minimal movement of my heels. I guess one can get used to anything, when given enough time and practice.

Mr Moto P. I love your posts, they're always full of great information. I have a quick question for you though. Is the unit for our car a generic toyota unit or do I have to wait for a Scion FRS/Toyota 86 specific one?
