You can still do flex fuel with an external boost controller. The ECU can still run a lot more timing on E85. The ECU will also compensate for different boost levels set by the external controller via the MAP senor. The decent ECBS have overboost protection. However they can't correlate other things like AFR to cut boost if the car is running too lean. Well I think the AEM failsafe can do that but most do not.

You would have to have a high and low boost setting on the EBC and it wouldn't adjust boost level based upon ethanol content. The ECU could pull timing but that's gonna raise your EGTs not a elegant solution in my mind. I could and have thought about hooking up my AEM failsafe to protect against over boost in case of a ECU failure or a leaning out due to fuel pump/injector failure.

Yeah I don't necessarily want it adjusting boost based on Ethanol content. I may want it to adjust other parameters like timing and fueling, but not boost.
It's simple to wire up the failsafe to cut boost when you exceed a certain AFR. I'm on the fence between using one or trying to figure out how to do the same thing with the stock ECU. |

I never set an ethanol boost comp in flex fuel tunes. Most people want to be able to run low boost on e85, so I just set up four map modes with four different boost levels (generally 1 and 2 for pump or e, 3 and 4 for e only). If you set it up to comp against the ECA, you can't run what you want when you want.
