Mine never had issues besides having to change a clutch. I did all the routine maintenance and spent a lot of time wrenching on it for fun. Owned for 45,000 or so miles before wrecking it. Still the best high speed preforming car I've owned. Everything else I've had has been lightweight and felt like a tin can blowing in the wind above 90mph. Not that I drive that fast anymore anyway.

Mitsubishi is on the fast track to irrelevance. I wouldn't get my hopes up that they come out with anything even remotely exciting.

A lightweight car can feel planted at 120+, trust me. As for the 3000GT? The VR4 was shockingly heavy for its size, so I doubt I would have liked it very much (I never drove one, but I tend to like lighter cars). It did look pretty nice though.

Great on paper, terrible execution. Too heavy, bad balance, meh handling.

The retractable hardtop looked cool, though.

It handled well actually. Could have went on a diet though 3800lbs isn't really light... Also had great aftermarket support!

I've never driven one, I'll admit. But I remember a ton of reviews criticizing it's heavy understeer because of it being rather front heavy.

Maybe that was just relative to the lighter AWD Eclipse/Talon, or rwd cars of the era?

I don't think they're cancelling the EVO, just changing its drivetrain up to meet "modern standards". Which means it will be a hybrid.

But they say it will still maintain its 0-60 times. They said it would go on sale 3 years from the date of the article, which was 2011...so take it with a grain of salt.

The latest I've seen regarding the XI is from December 2013, and most places claim it will be a 1.1L Hybrid with power equivalent to a 3.0L engine.

Can't say I'm all that excited anyway.

From my own Experience. The VR-4 Is with typical Mitsubishi reliability. The engine is not Bullet proof, but it can be moded to hold 450 AWHP easily.

The handling ? You are correct, it is Front heavy, it can be felt under-steered, but it actually is not, that is the 4 wheels steering the car has. Many had removed it, and it handle much better (You don't feel it as much.) Compare to the present EVO X and the STI. The VR4 is not that fun, it can not be tossed around as easy, and the body roll is greater. Also, it doesn't feel as sporty, it felt Luxurious. The material being used in the VR4 was ways better than the Present EVO X. ESC was engineered to minimize harsh ride.

The one thing it does super well is the High-Speed stability. Above 110+ MPH, you can still feel very confidence to turn....braking with high speed is a bit stupid with stock Brakes, but if you upgrade it, it can be made for a very good handling car. Such as Braces, Springs, Brakes, Remove AWS....etc. But the Front Heavy is undeniably there

Reliability ? Transfer case lock up, broken, Main Bearing busted, are commons, beside that there are minor things here and there, like boost leak, torn boots....etc. Very annoying. Especially TC lock up due to slow leak can be dangerous.

It is not any heavier than the GT-R, it just doesn't have the sophisicated S-AWC.

I had a late 80's Galant Sigma, adjustable suspension and power everything was pretty impressive. Engine was meh, but it was a pretty damn good car. Never seen another one since then.

They since go back to how it was, a cheap luxury car that wasn't as good as the Germans but was worth it for the price. That's a Galant i could see selling.

i agree.. they've made a couple 'car makers that won't be around by next year' lists..

at this years auto show, i laughed at how sparsely populated their booth was.. if you're not drawing in the masses at a show, you're probably not selling cars as well either...

and spun 180 degrees-- pretty much every other booth around them was packed..

Is Mitsubishi really just barely treading water? Wont the Evo be the next modern classic? Current 1 owner Evo owners should be rejoicing

Now I have to say I own a Mitsubishi it's a 07 eclipse it's got 175,000 miles on I've never had any engine issues not even as much as a engine light come on. All in all it's built like a tank and can't knock down Mitsubishi it's been a very reliable car.
