The beauty of a Toyota is the reliability is built in. I too made the MINI mistake while waiting on the FR-S to come out. Bought a used Cooper S 2007. It was a great little car and a lot of fun to drive for about a year and a half. Then the Malfunction Indicator Lamp started making REGULAR APPEARANCES!@ Luckily I had an extended warranty that covered the replacement of the water pump, turbo water pump, turbo, vacuum pump, vacuum lines, vacuum reservoir (have I forgotten anything?). These things didn't happen all at once mind you. This was two months worth of torture. It had a clean carfax but I had a hard time selling it. Finally gave up and traded it in on the FR-S.
Definitely learned my lesson. BMW = Buy More Wrenches.

Congrats on your new, Reliable, purchase.

(had to laugh when you mentioned oil catch cans, I remember reading forums about those. Seems those MINI's have oil show up in all kinds of places instead of in the oil pan - mine showed up in vacuum lines via the vacuum pump!)

I got a CEL on my car. Camshaft correlation sensor. They reset it and it did not come back. We shall see...

Other than that, 15k miles and rolling along reliably, clocking 30 mpg with spirited driving.

IMO, the 993 was the pinnacle of the 911. Since then, they've gotten bigger, heavier, and more luxury-oriented. More performance, no doubt, but somehow less satisfying (even the way the door latches!). These days you don't even get to see much of the engine and the last straw: the latest GT3 is PDK only.
I really like the 993, but the SC/3.2's are currently taking off in value as did the 993 previously. I wouldn't kick a GT3/RS out of the garage though. I find the FR-S to be a nice counterpoint to the 911. Both are very enjoyable, but the 911 is a keeper; not so much the FR-S.

A couple days ago a friend and I took my 2014 Cayman and 2014 FRS out on a favorite back road test loop--ran the loop in both directions and swapped cars in the middle. Big difference in feel between the two cars of course. Punch the throttle on the Cayman and it punches back and snarls in a most gratifying way. The material and build quality of the Porsche is absolutely top end. The base Porsche is pretty much track ready with big brakes and decent high performance tires. The Cayman is balanced and planted like no other car I have driven. You can definitely push some G's but need to use a fair amount of care on public roads.

The FRS has a different feel altogether. My friend said it seemed a bit "nervous". (In a good way, like a racehorse). Both of us agreed that it is actually at least as much fun, if not more fun, to drive than the Porsche. You can (and should) thrash the FRS and it will reward you with an edgy but controllable ride. You have the sensation of speed without having to go as fast (compared to the Porsche.) It is a blast to toss the FRS into a corner. You can approach and feel the grip limit, whereas to reach the same point in the Porsche you really should be on a track. For me at least, the comfort level is less when approaching grip limits with a mid-engine car.

One thing I love about the FRS and dislike about the Porsche is the ability to see and work on the engine without a lift. Customizing the FRS is also great fun.

Awesome car collection.
I highly recommend the Nameless axel back and the TRD cold air. Easy to install, not crazy mods and make a big diff in feel and sound.
The TRD Air Filter is a must, but avoid the TRD Air Intake. It's expensive and all you're paying for is a plastic box that's a little bigger than the stock one with no more added airflow than simply adding the filter. Plus it requires deletion of the sound tube.
