When you start driving it, you can tell you're just pushing the engine a bit harder and getting everything it currently has out of it.

I'm considering e85, but since I live over near pennybacker bridge, there really aren't any close e85 options. The openflash tablet will definitely be great for e85 and I may consider doing a couple of tanks just to see how it feels.

Can't wait to get my openflash headers and hopefully..maybe.. rumored openflash SC with my tax return (crossing my fingers for OFSC to be rotrex). I'd probably go with an off the shelf tune with it, and maybe look into getting it professionally tuned later down the road.

Oh man that is awesome thanks for the info man. I am trying to strong arm toyota into getting me a new ECU asap (rough idle/stalling issues) and I am just considering trying an entirely new map instead of relying on their laziness!

I also did not know they made headers and I am kind of in love with them, also the fact that you can order both those and the tablet for $1015 ... I am kind of sold at the moment!

I saw that you were talking about the new ECU in the austin thread. That's really weird, are you certain it's the ECU? What mods have you done to intake/exhaust? A new map definitely may fix it for you.. but that sounds really weird.

Awesome thread, thanks for sharing. I have owned 3 RX-7's over the years and while they can be a pain to maintain, there is just something special about those cars...

But the FT86 platform is a blast and special in it's own right.

Well, at first I thought it may be running a bit too rich and was choking itself out, but then I started to read about the first gen issues with the map holding the cam open for too long in the open circuit and choking out the engine. I cleared the capacitors in the ECU and did the whole "relearn" process (which many think is pointless and I, in a way, do too) but it seemed to help. Then a few days ago, I kinda did a high rev burn out and it clearly did something, as I almost got stuck in the parking lot since my engine would just not keep itself stable (kept dying). I did another "relearn" and it is fine again, but I cannot keep doing that shit and being fearful of even pushing past 3.5 rpms...

I have and AEM intake and ARK DT-S exhaust. I also have a front pipe to put on but I am waiting to figure out what the hell is going on. I have my car in the garage on here, so maybe there is something in there that is screwing with the A/F ratios?

Any insight would be helpful. I just figure if it is a free replacement, I may as well replace the ECU with the new map.

P.S. I am not really an ECU master or anything, but I am trying to learn more about tuning and with me moving into a place with a garage soon, I figure now is the time to start since it will be easy to work on my car

I think the intake + exhaust could be causing it to run rich. I would take it in personally, but if you're looking to diagnose it yourself then maybe look into getting a scan gauge / ultra gauge to monitor AFR. Or maybe if I came to a meet would could test it out on OFT and use datalog to see what your AFR is.

I know on ultra gauge (obd2 connection), you can see AFR command ratio, which is like AFR/14.6 something. It's on a scale of 0 to 2, 1 being 14.6 AFR. So if you were running less than .7 command ratio, you'd be running pretty rich (~10.5 AFR), on WOT that is. You may be running rich on idle too..

Like I said, I'd take it in, but if you wanna use the OFT and do some logs, I'm here to help

The OpenFlash S/C is no longer rumored - it is official and currently in testing phase as far as I know

I definitely want to take it in somewhere, but man I have much to learn... I would love to get some readings on your OpenFlash, unless I get my own before then. I really need to figure this out. Are you going to Twin Sisters next weekend? I was planning on going but with this happening, I am a bit iffy

I guess honestly my best solution would be to just take it in somewhere and get it tuned out? If so, I know its pricey, but I may give cobb a call to get some pros on this since I know they are down here off burnet

Not sure if cobb has much experience on the FA20 platform. I'm not planning on going down there (we got plenty of fun hills here to enjoy

Why are you against bringing it to the dealership?

Yep, but I'll still consider it "rumored" until I see the dyno

So you DD the rig that gets V8 gas mileage and weekend the one that gets 30+MPG? What is wrong with you man? I guess at least you don't have mud tires. My FJ gets like 15mpg avg with mud tires and S/C. You certainly picked the two most awesome niche vehicles. You and I are like complete opposites. I have a white FR-S, White TT FJ, girlfriend is going to get a black BRZ. Woooo for awesome girlfriends! Cars look good man, keep it going.

Lol, I don't let the MPG get to my head. Gas is gas, you're gonna use it no matter what. My commute to work is 8 freeway miles, so I'm not too worried about gas consumption - would rather keep the miles off the FR-S

We must both have awesome tastes in everything

Funny you mention you've got the FJ supercharged.. I was considering doing it as an alternative to buying my FR-S.. but a fast FJ? I'll take the slow fun car
