Part of the problem is the indoctrination into this alternate reality suggests that anyone who tells you anything that isn't part of the dogma is either stupid or evil. They are essentially brainwashed into thinking everyone else is brainwashed. I've tried introducing simple experiments theorists can do themselves, but convincing someone to put time and effort into proving something they think is ridiculous to begin with is quite difficult. Plus I'm an a**hole so that doesn't help.

Would an educated person try to capture a bird to dissect it to try to prove it's a machine, for example? Ok, maybe Irace would go that far to prove a point, but that guy has way too much time on his hands
