My launch XBOX 360 died 2 months after I got it, but my fault. Refurbished one I got died Dec 2010. XBOX 360 Elite died within a year. The refurb for it died in 2010 as well. XBOX 360 CoD:MW2 is still working AFAIK (according to the buyer). Current XBOX 360 Halo Reach version runs just fine since the day I got it.

Still on my original 60 GB PS3 that I got when they dropped $100 ($500). It's been going strong. In fact, I've been gaming a lot on it as of recently. Outputs a crap load of heat, but it still works. *knocks on wood*

My Sega Genesis still works. I think that was the last console I've owned.

My 360 had the RROD 1 time 3 years ago.

It was repaired under warranty.

I've had no problems since and I use it almost everyday for Netflix.

I've never once had a console die on me. (Going back to Sega Genesis and Nintendo years)

PS2 slim = Had it since 2004, played the hell out of it...still no problems

PS3 slim = Played the hell out of it for the last three years, no problems

My brother still has his original LAUNCH PS3, and he plays the hell out of it, with no problems.

***Unless you are very unlucky, I would look at two possible causes for your premature breakdowns.

1) The area where you place the consoles does not sufficiently evacuate heat (The consoles should never be in an enclosed entertainment center or on carpet, or in areas where they receive direct sunlight when you play them)

2) You play for more than 4-5 hours at a time without powering down the console. I always let the console cool down after 4-5 hours before I try playing again...did you perform any 10 hour marathon gaming sessions?

I might be done with future consoles if they continue to NOT make multiplayer/co-op/split-screen video games. Sick of not being able to play on the same screen in the same room in the same house on the same couch with my cousins. SO STUPID!

1) the area my system is in was open up rather than enclosed.

2) the most hours in a row is about 1-4 but on most days it is 0 since I barely played the damn thing.

Not sure about some of you guys, but I also tend to get a can of compressed air and blow around the vents. IMO, after a few years, dust buildup can be the cause of death for a system. Although, personally, I've never encountered a system that died due to dust build up, but I'm not about to find out now.

Just like Eurasianman said, dust buildup can be an issue too. Did you ever clean around the PS3?

If you took all the normal precautions you might just be unlucky then...

I've done it a couple of times on my first gen PS3. The system still gets hot, but I don't think having less dust could be any worse for it lolz.
