i plan on creating a build thread when the time comes :]

good news is that since the fr-s is the "budget" version of the bunch, the engine bay doesn't come paint-matched with the exterior... a plus for me, but the paint job will still run me about $3000...

Why not just do a vinyl wrap? Long-lasting, less expensive, and won't hurt your resale value because you can just peel it off. Plus you can choose different styles and patterns if you wanna get really crazy. Unless you're building a race/show car, I can't see why anyone would want to re-paint a brand new car. Here's a cool one on an M3:

i thought about vinyl, but a decent wrap job ain't cheap, at all...

at those price points i'd rather pay a little more, make it permanent, and get the color i really want...

yes, it's not the smartest move to repaint a brand new car, but a car i really want and will be keeping for a long time doesn't come in the color i want, so what am i going to do?

i will repaint it white sooner or later, so it's actually smarter to do it when it's new and there are no damages to the exterior... it will cost me more to repaint it down the road since they will have to do more prep work before painting, i'm talking fixing small dings and what-not... and i will get to enjoy the "correct" color sooner :]

That doesn't make any sense. You're basically saying it will cost you more because you wouldn't fix the dents otherwise...

i'm just speaking of the actual cost to repaint the car... it's cheaper to repaint when the surface is flawless...

i don't expect anyone to understand, just stating what i'm planning to do...

It's going to be just like any other Subaru. The bay will be painted but it will be one coat with no clear so it will kind of look like the outside of the car. Subaru doesn't waste time and money applying multiple coats or clear coat on engine bays.

That was a pre-production car. We have not seen a production FR-S yet.

Wow is this confirmed? So the BRZ will have a painted engine bay?

Yup. I just quoted myself. It's made by Subaru in a Subaru plant. It's going to be exactly like I just explained.

This makes the most sense

however, I would love it if the engine bay was like that on my BRZ. This is one of the primary reasons I absolutely hate respraying cars. When you open doors/tidbits and you see the original color underneath.
