No, but if I am going to buy an impractical car for a weekend driver I am thinking I would want something radically different from the BRZ that is not nearly as expensive to maintain and insure than a Lotus.

I love the Elise. But it is hard to justify paying close to $30K for a 2005-2006 model with fairly high miles.

have you driven a lotus?

it has stock aero man (which you can feel)... 900 pounds lighter, and the engine's at the back.. it's radically different from an FRS mang.

I have driven an Elise and want one. I just am bummed about the used prices going up... If I could find one for under $20K that is in good shape I would be all over the idea of owing one as a play car. I guess that is my point. I would love to own one, just not for $30K. I can find another play car for half the price that will be easier to maintain and will give me a different dynamic vs what I have now.

There seems to be deals that pop up on ebay but generally they all have at least minor body damage...

I absolutely love the Elise. I'd love to drive one and possibly own one some day, but at 25-35k used (even being optimistic...) I can't justify that. Especially when I'd have to baby the crap out of the car because I'd be too afraid to damage the beautiful and expensive body panels

So I'll just drive the crap out of my FRS instead . For 30k I'd wait for C6 z06 prices to drop (if they ever do...) or just go for a c6 or c5 z06 'vette. Like another poster made the point - I already have a lightweight nimble sports car.

I have seen C5 Z06 Vettes going for $20-22K with under 70K miles. The engines are bulletproof and the car is fairly reliable and inexpensive to maintain.

I am really considering one. I have never owned a Vette but grew up loving them as a kid....

I agree with jsimmon, my FRS has sated my lust for other contemporary sports cars, but I wouldn't go faster, I'd go classic. Not many cars built in the last ten years interest me, I'll take something mechanically simple (and interesting) and aesthetically pleasing (to my eye) over a recent Lotus (although I could NEVER say no an Esprit). It's not that the Lotus isn't mechanically interesting and simple and pleasing to the eye, it's just that I think I've had my fill of "modern" motoring.

Although the Alfa 4C and theoretical RX-? are tempting if I had much deeper pockets... Sorry for the off topic but I guess the shine worn off Lotus in my very irrelevant opinion, maybe I just need to drive one but I'd rather turn an NA Miata into a racecar for much less money and likely just as many smiles.

The only reason I wouldn't want an Elise is because I'd rather have the Exige S...if I could afford it:

I always hear stories that Lotus is on the verge of bankruptcy, that could make finding parts a bit difficult

Lotus has been on the brink of bankruptcy for the last 80 years

I think they sold a lot of Elise's throughout Europe, parts availability shouldn't be an issue. Except the carbon body pieces, too many deer in my neck of the woods, main reason I went with the FRS over a used elise.

Same . I told myself once c6 z06 gets in the 20-30k range I'd buy one, but now with how great the c7 looks idk... I might just wait out and save up money for that. That's one hell of a car.

For 20k though the c5 z06 is a steal and they seem to be selling like crazy on ebay at least.
