Obviously the UEL header needs a specific tune. I wonder if the stock ecu can do mapping by cylinder. If so maybe hks tuned it as such and that's why you get it with a programmer.

I'm guessing $1400 for the header (since it's catted) and $600 for the tune and tuning box. That's probably why it's so expensive. The cat is crazy. It's right there at the opening when you unbolt the overpipe (looking at the pics in my Japanese mag).

I knew this would be pointed out one way or the other. Definitely a valid point but considering you're getting the header + tune + HKS quality + HKS R&D + logistics of shipping it from Japan, the price sounds just a little more reasonable.

No offense but it's hard to pull the trigger on some of the American made ones mainly because I have no idea who many of these small fabrication shops are. I'm all for supporting American products but either I've never heard of them or don't know what kind of real R&D went into them. At least with companies like HKS, you know they've got access to a range of test equipment and funding to make a quality product.

Got any scans of it? I didn't realize this was catted. But for a catted header + tune, this isn't that bad. Just a few hundred more than the HKS EL catted header.

I'll have to look for the magazine in my junk pile. But the advert posted above says it is catted as well. Kind of like a mini cat right at the overpipe connection/flange. You see how it's oddly shaped/canned looking.

First glance I thought "where's the cat?" but it must be a super slim type just at the OP flange...

Wish that story was the same for Borla. They've got millions and their header is still junk.

I've never heard of HKS until I owned this car and to me, that's way too expensive for a header. The headers in the $700-$1000 are more reasonable for quality materials and a great design. I'll put my JDL UEL up against this any day. My header along with my full Ecutek tune including the cable is still less than this AND I'm getting the tune modified at no additional cost. Hard deal to pass up.

Yeah, it's a Legamax sport? It looks pretty good. If I didn't need a new bumper to get it to work I'd consider getting the axelback.

As for the cat, I guess it'll be after the oxygen sensor, which still means CEL...

Hey guys, my name is Kevin. I handle HKS tech, as well as other operations here in the US.

I thought I would add some information about the header / exhaust combo to clarify some information.

Honestly, the Boxer spec manifold is designed more for acoustic purposes than performance. Although, you will see a gain with the header and tune package most of the power gains will come from the tune.

The other manifold designs offered by HKS will produce more power than the boxer spec manifold. Dyno comparisons should be available once the tune is firmed up.

This is true. There is a slight possibility the manifold will be available on it's own. We are presently discussing the possibility.

Really, any decent manifold along with other modifications will require a tune to produce max performance. HKS has been working on the flash editor for US vehicles for quite some time which is part of the hold up.

Why is that crazy?

Any product developer worth its salt will have an engine dyno for endurance testing. The amount of actual testing / development HKS does is more extensive than most manufactures I've dealt with over the past 19 years.

This is a new system for the car named "Legamax Sports"

You don't have to replace the whole bumper. The exhaust includes new "garnish" pieces to clear the quad tips.

I also believe the O2 sensor retain pre cat location.

You can view the release here.

I gotta admit that quad tip with garnish looks pretty bad ass... Makes the rear end look wider.
